I dunno but they're dam cute, the Paki ones that is.
They are the follower of their spritual learder, remote association with shia muslims. Prince kareem Agha khan is the current one( i guess). They have their own set of rule and religious guidence directed by Agha khan.
more info is available in some old threads :)
Ismailis are a religious group that split off from Shias after the death of the 6th Shia Imam.
Essentially, unlike mainstrem Shias who believe the 12th Imam is currently hidden, Ismailies believe in a constantly running line of Imams, going through to the current Aga Khan.
Their beliefs are, to my view, extremely strange and suspect. For example, they do not offer namaaz (pray) in the same manner as Sunnis and mainstream Shias, except for Eid prayers. Other than that, their daily prayers consist of dua only rather than full salaat.
In theory, the majority of them also do not believe that fasting in ramadan and pilgrimage to Mecca is obligatory, though apparently some vehemently disagree. I have an Ismaili friend who only keeps some of the fasts in Ramadan and really does not believe he sins through that, but his mother views goes to the other extreme. She views fasting as so obligatory that she would fast even when too sick to get out of bed.
I could go on for ages about the oddities I've found about their beliefs, except that I have a job to go back to.
But yet, give the lack of 'ijma (consensus amongst the scholars) declaring them to be non-Muslims, I am unwilling to go that step and say that. I'm not qualified to declare someone to be Muslim or not. Until I see ulema across the Muslim world united in pressing for them to be declared non-Muslims (as was done for a different religious group within the past 50 years) , I believe that one must continue to consider them as Muslims, albeit very unorthodox ones.
What I know about them is that they certainly believe that there is no God but Allah and that Mohammed is his (final) Messenger.
okay I have another.
