Dubai: It was a revelation of sort from the Sultan of swing. Wasim Akram, the legendary left-arm pacer and former skipper of the Pakistan team revealed that he ‘hated’ his bowling partner Waqar Younis during their playing days.
“We hated each other so much that we were not even on talking terms both on and off the field; but the fact is that Pakistan benefited from our rivalry,” remarked Akram, who was here to attend the HSBC Cricket Challenge.
Their rivalry was so intense that “every time Waqar took wickets, I too would too get charged up to do the same,” Akram revealed, while adding that it were the opponents who actually suffered from their rivalry. Akram went on take 916 wickets from Test and one-day matches while Younis had 789 wickets from both forms of the game.
Yes, age has sobered both of them now and Akram admitted that they were good friends now.
cuz of akram .............. waqar has suffered alot ........
He was dropped frm the team when he was on his peak ..........
waqar cud have more wickets then wasim if wasim hadn't plotted against him :@
This was obvious when Wasim dropped Waqar and when Waqar became captain he dropped Wasim and gave statement something like "spot in team will be only for merit/prove-worthiness".

At his ''peak '' .the guy was dropped from the Glamorgan XI ? who dropped him from a county side .
He was dropped from the side after the India series 1999 . He was poor in his form .
Pakistan has produced some of the world's greatest cricketers, but the history of their cricket is fraught with tales of rivalries between their top players. Individually they have contributed immensely for the team though they never got along each other.
In the sixties, Abdul Hafeez Kardar, the first captain of Pakistan, could not get along with Haneef Mohammad.
In the Seventies Sarfraz Nawaz and Asif Iqbal were not in good terms. Then in the Eighties, Javed Miandad and Imran Khan were not the best of friends.Later on, Rashid Latif and Saleem Malek too turned enemies. The latest of the rivalries was between Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, resulting in Akhtar hitting Asif on his leg with a cricket bat.
imagine a guy who doesnt follow cricket reading all this :)

I agreed ,as much as the talent these guys possessed ,didn't know how to behave like grown up men . I like both W's ,they were such an awesome sight . But too unproffesionalistic . Wasim is especially not a good human being . Waqar is better compared to Wasim ,but he was the one who stabbed at Wasim's back .Still they could have sorted it out in a much more better way .
The two idiots put their fking egos and bickering above the interests of the country. No wonder I have always been the one questioning the unquestionable patriotism we display towards an unethical and unprofessional bunch of Pakistani cricketers.
^ :k: At the end of the day, both Wasim and Waqar did gave their level best for Pakistan. Rivelries are not new in sports, there is ego, bickering and misunderstanding. Does not matter if they hate each other’s guts off the field, what matters is when players put it all aside and play as a team.
No ,they could have done more ,if they concentrate more on their games than petty internal politics. Pakistan team in 90s was the best team they ever have with the solid opening pair ,middle order and the best bowling attack .Simply the best team of that era on paper ,should have achieved more .
It might be a news for some, but not all. Akram in his various interviews since 2003 has said this using almost same words. Most recently I remember was Interview taken by Mani on Geo before WC07.
Egoism is the worst enemy in a team game. If Frederer has ego problem, it will only harm him and his professional life. But in a team, you are just another 11th player.
The last remainings of this plaque are Afridi and Akhtar.
Waqar DESERVED to be dropped from the side in 1999. Wasim was always the better bowler, but he never took away opportunities from Waqar when he deserved them. That's all hogwash made up by Waqar lovers.
I just don't get the point of bringing this up now. shows how immature some of our cricketers are...
Waqar's peak years were from 1989-1997. He was just never the same bowler after his pace dropped in 1997 following a stress fracture of his back
Waqar at his peak was more destructive than Wasim (hence got more people LBW or bowled than Wasim). Wasim on the otherhand had more variety in his repertoire and because of his short run up and quick arm action had better control of line and length and was able to stay at the top of his game for a lot longer than Waqar
Waqar was very destructive when he first started playing ODIs. I remember in the Australasia Cup in 1990 (under Imran's leadership) he took something like 16 or 17 wickets in just 4 or 5 games, most of them bowled! but he could also go for plenty when he did n't quite get his line right.
Wasim on the otherhand rarely went for more than 4 or 4.5 RPO in limited overs cricket.
Exactly. Yeh inqishaf karne ki abhi kiya zarorat thee? What’s the point in telling the whole world that I was jealous and didn’t like Waqar back in the day? Iss ko kehte hain, chagga chakk ke tidd dikhana. Khota.

The Waqar Wasim were fantasitic bowlers combination. Both play long period cricket and have great esuccess. I think the Waqar Younis take almost 800 wickets in international cricket and Wasim more wickets.
I liked both bowler. As captaan is good to have variety in fast bowling department.
