i got laser hair removal

yesterday, and now i have what i think are blisters under my chin area. that whole area is covered. it looks gross. will they go away by tonight, and should i cool that area to make the blisters go away faster?

Re: i got laser hair removal

It's normal, even I got blisters and real RED one's when I went for laser of facial hair... just put some cold cream.. and maybe cucumbers.. that's what I did and they do go away naturally..

Re: i got laser hair removal

oh wow risky stuff but good :) shoo those blisters away soon.

well good luck varocious, I hope everything goes ok for you and u get the results you are looking for :) Inshallah!

Re: i got laser hair removal

^uh*.*

anyway. do NOT apply cold cream or anything of the sort. it's weird that you got blisters the next day. usually the skin blisters immediately and goes down over the next few hours.

only apply aloe vera gel and wash with luke warm water. no soaps or other products.

make sure you tell the aesthetician next time, the settings sound far too high.

Re: i got laser hair removal

also, did you not get test patched for these settings?

Re: i got laser hair removal

hey stoppit: i'm using a cold pack on that area but not sure if it's doing anything. i'm just using some polysporin on it to prevent an infection. i looked online about this and it mentioned a chance for infection so i think polysporin might be a good idea. the blisters aren't huge or anything...they just look like big white-heads. i think my technician mentioned i might get them, but i never imagined they would look like that.

and no i didn't get a test patch done. i just jumped right into it. i will tlel her about the settings for next time for sure.

Re: i got laser hair removal

that's fine. laser destroys the follicles by producing heat in the deeper layers on skin but i don't think you need the cold pack anymore. pink skin for upto 12 hours and some blistering (raised bumps of skin that go down by the next day) are usually typical.

for next time, keep some aloe gel with you and apply it through the day.

for anyone else reading, please get test patched first, it should be part of the consultation appointment. to be completely honest, i would not have treatment anywhere where this is not standard protocol as it suggests less than proper treatment.

temporary side effects should be minimised. they need to trade off effective settings with maintaining the integrity of the skin.

Sadly, once you get the blisters, there's not much you can do to get rid of them, aside from draining them in a relatively sterile manner and an applying antibiotic ointment and a bandage. Then you play the waiting game and hope that when the blister sloughs of, it doesn't leave a mark. As there's a bit of an issue on the threads w/ posting outgoing links, I'm just going to point you towards howtogetridofthings dot com and ask that you read the "How to Get Rid of Blisters" tutorial.

There's a saying: an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure; the next time you feel you're about to get a burn blister (and with burn blisters, I can often feel where one is going to form) immediately apply a cooling ice/gel pack to the area (and keep it on until you no longer feel a burning sensation in that area), to prevent the blister from forming. As Stoppit has wisely pointed out, once the blister has fully formed, the ice/gel pack is largely useless. I know this advice seems like cold comfort now, but it will help stave off more blisters in the long run.

Re: i got laser hair removal

I wouldn't advise draining them personally. They are small, they will heal.

Doh! :smack: I completely missed the part about the blisters being quite small.
Nevermind my comment, then; Stoppit’s quite right: let them heal.

Re: i got laser hair removal

i never pop my blisters, even when i get them on my hands or whatever. random factoid, but one of my blisters on my hand scratched off ages ago before it could heal and now it's got a horrible scar =( it's been a year now. sighs. anyways.

the blisters i can pass off as whiteheads. most of them are gone, but some are still there. but what do i do with the 5 o'clock shadow that's coming out on my chin now. i've been told that i can't scrub until the 4th day, and that's tomorrow. i got to go somewhere tonight =(

Re: i got laser hair removal

eek, well there is nothing you can do. that's the problem with LHR on the face. and you do need to plan treatments around your life. you really just need to be gentle with your skin and skincare. no makeup, no shaving for at least a week. in fact, if you want quick shedding, it's best not to shave at all. scrubbing won't do anything yet anyway, it's too early.

Re: i got laser hair removal

man no one mentions this stuff when they talk about laser.
i'm trying not to touch my face. can i put on moisturizer though? my face is just so dry right now that it's irritating.

Re: i got laser hair removal

You really need to buy some Aloe Vera Gel, it's also moisturising and the right thing for your skin right now in its delicate condition.

I'm sorry to say but this stuff **is **mentioned at any good clinic. Even then, I advise anyone thinking of pursuing LHR to do their research thoroughly.

For example, the periods the clinics quote are usually too soon. You have had your first treatment but there is usually no visible reduction after your first treatment if **you wait for all the hairs in the next growth cycle to come up. So your 2nd treatment should not be at 4 weeks or whatever they told you but whenever it looks as though you have a 'full growth' of hair. For the face, it is more like 6 weeks, possibly 8.
Usually the clinics tell you to come back
as soon as** you see new hairs coming up - wrong. This is will just make you need more treatments in the long run.

Can I ask where you are getting treated (you can pm this)?
Also, what is your fitzpatrik skin type, what Laser are they using? Is your clinic registered with an appropriate body?
