When I was moving into res on campus about 2 months ago, I saw the Indian guy who lives next door to me, I said hello to him, and he never said anything, or maybe he didn’t hear me. Either way, I was highly offended and thought fine, I’m going to be a snob from now on! I made friends with other people on my floor and in the building (including cute Belgian guy down the corridor), and whenever I saw him, I would look away, even though he tried making eye contact a few times.
My mum stayed with me for a couple of weeks and she thought it was highly odd that even though I used to cross my neighbours path, we never greeted each other. So anyway, today, as I was making iftaari with my friend, I stepped outside for some fresh air and he was just coming out of his room, so I said hi, and he seemed really happy and I felt bad for thinking he was such a snob. His English wasn’t very good, which is why I think he was a bit shy. Anyway, I now know his name, and that he’s from Calcutta and is doing his Phd in Chemistry. hehe
lol oh come on, I know exactly what Faisal was asking!!
But in our conversation today, I asked him, so do you do your own cooking? This was sly of me, because I always smell beautiful meheks from his room. I think I'll send him some samosay tomorrow. :D I gave some chicken karhai to my Cameroonian friend and he loved it!

Good. So let me ask, how come we don't hear about all the other "hi" you say to countless other people around the campus? There is some "beautiful mehek" in this whole story. Or so we hope. Otherwise, this is a big anti-climax.
why can't a girl open up a thread on meeting a desi neighbor? It does not automatically mean she's interested. Just happy to have made a connection with a fellow brown individual.
Good for you catz. I wish my desi neighbors smiled. They're all creepy.

I know you didn't. But then you don't go around opening a 1,000 word post on saying "hi" to a guy. Or may be you do, and I missed them all.
:D

I thought your thread on "I don't live with my boyfriend..." was really useless and stupid as well. So, each to his own. :D
PCG, yeah one just has to make a little effort and give them a second chance I suppose.
How typical. Catty, those of us raised in the east are not familiar with girls initiating an introduction. That's all I guess.
You did the right thing. He sounds like an introvert. Open him up a little. Most Indians are like that, specialy the guys. During my days in uni I would make an effort to go introduce myself everytime I saw a desi.
