^ no but it sounds good.
Have you read the 'Mini Shopaholic series' by Sophie Kinsella? I havn't yet but everyone who has read it...loved it.
Re: I feel like reading a really good book
I would thoroughly recommend catcher in the rye!
Mini Shopaholic I did pick up but then for some reason put it back down again ...hmm maybe ill get it!
Re: I feel like reading a really good book
sounds interesting
Yes - it is a classic. Benjamin Graham was Warren Buffet's mentor/Guru. I believe the 1st edition was around 1973. Graham (1894-1976) also wrote another classic - Security Analysis (1934). That book is too heavy for me.
Another nice book - Irrational Exuberance by Yale Professor Robert Shiller. Will keep an investor out of trouble by guiding him/her away from bubbles.
Re: I feel like reading a really good book
^ southie thanks for the recommendations!
I have read all of them apart from A thousand splendid suns and the investor one.
Is the Investor one a 'how to' book?
Inspiron, you can call it a how to do book. It is a classic, must have. Talks about why you shold not buy overpriced assets, always buy things at a discount.
First published in 1973, things have changed, so one needs to use some judgment in incorporating the message from the era. For example, say the book value of a company is $10 billion. And its market cap is $20B. Then price/book value ratio is 2. According to Graham, you should not pay more than P/B ratio of 0.5 - or $5B for above stock. You just cannot find those kind of stocks anymore - (unless you want some broken down financials that report inflated book values, such that P/B may be 0.5, but actual book value may be much lower, so P/B may be much higher).
Similarly, he talks about paying low P/E, P/Sales multiples, low debt (solid balance sheet) etc.
Sorry for the rambling.
