Just because someone doesn't want to marry a FOB doesn't mean they hate FOBs. I don't want to marry a 19 year old- does that mean I hate them?? Of course not. It's just that a 19 year old is not what I'm looking for as my marriage partner.
In fact, my sister says to my parents she will never marry a FOB and they are totally cool with that. Does this mean my sister hates my parents?? Obviously not...even they know that there are a lot of differences between people raised here vs. in Pak. It's just a matter of comfort...for some people, the culture gap is not a big deal and the personalities complement each other...for others, it's a big gulf, and no matter how similar they are, the culture thing makes everything a struggle.
Expressing a preference for one thing doesn't always mean dislike for the other.
I agree! Just coz someone says they don't want to marry a person from back home or someone who just came here, doesn't mean they have anything against that particular group of people. It's just different and some people are comfortable with that difference and some are not. The phrase fob has become so commonplace in our culture here that my friends and I use it for each other all the time and we were all born here! As far as I know, fob means a person who is not really accustomed to the lifestyle here and is new to the country. Nothing more.
