I don't know what to wear?!?

I will be travelling to Pakistan alone in a couple of weeks- hubby having already left. My dilemma is this- I have never been to Peshawar airport which is where I will be going. And I don’t know what to wear! We are pathaans so in laws are very very conservative (I.e.: must wear white chaddar if outside of the house etc) although only in Pak. So what do I do? Wear jeans etc from here (2 hour layover in Dubai) and then change into salwaar kameez before I get of the plane at Peshawar? And what about the chaddar? Could I get away with the dupatta only? Or, alternatively, should I wear a long maxi with hijab? I am super confused. And no i don’t wear hijab everyday. But the chaddar is soooo huge and difficult to manage and I don’t want to be constantly adjusting it through customs etc…but then again, I don’t want to offend my in laws either. Or should I just ask hubby? (I know he will say chaddar - but I feel as if I am covered in hijab, shouldn’t that be enough?) my travel time is just over 20 hours all up. Advice needed please!

I think nadz would be the best person to reply to this, i think she lives in peshawar

Re: I don't know what to wear?!?

Ask your husband. He's the only one who can guide you properly.

Some conservative places and people are rather strange and a hijab is *not *considered more acceptable than a chaadar. Consider the chaadar more like a dress code that blends you in and makes you look acceptable to your inlaws rather than a religious parda thing.

Re: I don't know what to wear?!?

I think it's like Saudi Arabia in Peshawar (women expected to cover head to toe) but not sure.

Re: I don't know what to wear?!?

There are variously dressed girls at the airport from girls in shafon dupatta to those in full clad burqas. Depends on the family. And s hijab will not look out of place at all. I would also prefer it to chadar as it dsnt need adjustment once it is on. Peshawar is as conservative as your family is and every family is different.

Re: I don't know what to wear?!?

Not really.

Re: I don't know what to wear?!?

Change into shalwar kameez at Dubai during your layover. Put the chaddar on once you're through customs at Peshawar airport. Chances are there will be at least 5 porters that will rush to your aid since you're a single woman without a husband/brother/son, so you wouldn't have to mess around with luggage too much.

Re: I don't know what to wear?!?

Keep the chaddar in your hand luggage and wear it after you've collected your luggage and are just about to come out.

Re: I don’t know what to wear?!?

A long coat and a scarfshould help you best. You can wear anything and wear a long coat (like an abaya) over it at Dubai Airport and cover your head with a scarf

wear jeans but keep the the chadar and a long kurti in your bag so you can throw it in during your layover. Never been to Peshwaer though but I have seen the chadaar thing with my pataani friends.
