Some Indian friend of mine said Assalaam-o-Alikum to me and i n response to dat I go,‘’ Hello would be OK’'.

first hing first, keep in mind that when non-muslim say salam just say WA’ALAIKUM and dont say the salam part…and say it in a way that they wont notice the difference:D

You don't have to say wa alaikum us-salam, infact, we are told to say Wa Alaikum only in response. It's just like if someone says "have a good day" and in response, you say "you too", instead of saying "you have a good day too"

You can say Wa alaikum Aslaam to her as our religion says that if someone pays Salaam to you, reply him/her in better way.

OMG Nope. Do a research. If a non-muslim says salam to you, you should say Wa Alaikum. Here's the reason, as far as I know.
Salam means peace. Saam means death. In old days, kaafirs used to come to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and other sahabas and used to say (on purpose) "Saama Alaikum" (death be upon you). Sometimes it was so hard to distinguish whether they said Assalam-o-Alaikum or Saam-o-Alaikum. Therefore. the reply in return used to be "Wa alaikum" (on you too). So if they said peace be upon you, the reply would be on you too, and if they said death be upon you, the reply would be on you too. Whatever they sent on Muslims was sent back on them in return.
Like I said, it's not something bad to say "Wa Alaikum" because it means on you too, just like when someone says have a good day, you say "you too" and we don't think it's bad because it's not. It's just a shortcut.
This is the reason I've been told by teachers. Aagey Allah ko pata.

Sometimes it's best if you keep it inside you. If the truth bothers you so much, use the PM system. We don't need to make a drama out of it and the whole world doesn't need to know "the truth".
