I deliberately earned a booking: Beckham

Beckham who got injured during WC qualifier against Wales admitted that he deliberately earned a booking to get the suspension out of the way knowing he will miss the game anyway through injury. Pretty clever eh? He has irked many people including FIFA president and now has issued an apology. Though Sven has said he will take some sort of action. But I dont think Beckham did something new but only thing he did wrong is that he admitted it being deliberate.

England captain David Beckham has revealed that he deliberately got himself booked against Wales on Saturday.
The Real Madrid star was cautioned for a foul on Ben Thatcher late in the game, and he will now miss Wednesday’s clash with Azerbaijan, a match he would have sat out with a rib injury anyway.

“I am sure some people think that I have not got the brains to be that clever,” said Beckham.

"But I do have the brains. I could feel the injury so I fouled Thatcher, it was deliberate.

“I knew straight away I had broken my ribs, I have done it before. I knew I would be out for a few weeks, so I thought: ’Let’s get the yellow card out of the way.’”

Excrept from comments on goal.com, cracked me up

  • “He told us he had the brains to get booked deliberately so as to serve a suspension for a game he would anyway miss through injury. Shame he didn’t have the brains to keep quiet about it.”* :hehe:

It does not make sense why he do it,

it seem like to me that the only purpose of admitting this, is to remain in news while he is out of action due to medical reasons.

a clever sod if there ever was one, get the yellow card out of the way until ribs heal haha :k: but he made the mistake when he spilled the beans to the tabloids :smack:

smart move I must say, and its nothing new, even when i played for my uni we did this, although never admitted it :)

OHHH

Hey whats the big deal man..............evry 1 around the world no matter how big a player he is does this............common they need some rest as well

Smart move? Very low sportmanship I must say.

Ok could someone please explain to me whats going on?? He earned a booking (yellow card?) because he was injured??? How was this a smart thing to do??

he already had one yellow card, and with getting a second one he automatically misses the next game ..this is what iv always been told anyway..im a girl so im not meant to know much abt this subject!

anyway..so he's captain of the England team yeh? and the stupid British media always blow things out of proportion when he doesnt play for england games due to injury or wotever...so this time..bless his cotton socks..he thought he would try to be a little clever by purposly gaining a yellow card...therefor a good excuse not to play in the next game instead of just blaming it on injury.

i think he did good by admitting what he did, its abt time eveyone knew how pathetic this game can really be..im sure they do anyway...plus we get to see Beckham on every front and back page for a few days!!

everyone does it, but they dont have the golgappas to say it.
so what is less sportsman like, admitting that you did something that raises eyebrows, or continuing to do it but never admitting to it.

when u get 2 yellwo cards you have to miss the next match, now here is a scenario. if you havr to play against the follwong teams in order

match 1) opponent (dunn mater if it is a tough one or easy one)
match 2) easy lame duck opponent
match 3) tough opponent

lets say you got into match 1 with a yellow card already, you know that your team really needs you for match #3, and you also know that if you get a yellow card in match #2, that you will be ineligible for match #3.

since match #2 is easy for your team and they dont need you as bad, you get an intentional yellow card in match 1, thus you are ineligible for match2, and are back for match 3 with a clean sheet.

OOoooooo now i see. I knew that by getting two yellow cards you get ejected but no one said anything about him getting one before this one, so i was thinking that he only had one yellow card, which would be really stupid. Thanks for clearing it up mohabat and fraudia.
