Just because Sen won the Nobel prize we should not forget where he is coming from. Sen is way left of the centre and his comments on China is reflective of his leftish leanings. China will not be a democracy in your lifetime.
China is good as it is now.
I don't agree with his arguments. China might but not any time soon.

I agree with the thread poster in totality.
One has to plan long term and short term and must take short term and long term decisions.
One need educated people to do it. Which they have. Not like us every tom dicken harry wants to govern the country.
We talk about Democracy too much. Do we have people who know why are they giving vote to some one?
Litracy rate of our country is just 37%, and out of this most of these people are either from karachi or lahore and some from Islamabad etc the rest of whole Pakistan is illitrate. What Good they can do to our country while they can not manage their own single family well.
They are not successful as the head of their family. How can they be successful as the head of our beloved Pakistan. Ofcourse Pervez Musharaf has a successful family back ground from his father side, from his mother side, from his children side. So what if he is in military he is a Pakistani at the end of the day. He did not waste his life on the roads gethering people to run his home as head of his family. Neither he went to serve to vested interests of Arabs to get some millions of dollars. This some people did because they were unable to earn the bread and butter for their own personal families.
If such people sit quitely for some times and make perveez musharaf 's hands strong; there is every possibility that he can take out our country from the swamp it is in now and was in during different rulers' time before, and we do not even realize that. I wish and hope and pray that our country should also be like china. They are heading towards full flaged democracy, and trying step by step for last so many years, the way we are trying now.
