Re: I became victim of a fraud how do I get my money back.

Mirch bhai, before going any further, contact the guy and see what he has to say… nice cars, family, nice house etc doesn’t mean that he can’t be a crook…

And no, no mafioso contacts in yankland :(… want me to put you in touch with the Triad?? :faizy:

Re: I became victim of a fraud how do I get my money back.

pay peanuts, buy monkeys...

yes wine.

But I think you are very skilled, so your requirements would be more complicated.
Do some research, or install suse on an extra machine. I know ppl use dll and other windows stuff on linux with "wine"

Good Luck.

Re: I became victim of a fraud how do I get my money back.

Mirch: That’s horrible!!! We buy from craig’s list too, and luckily no unfortunate circumstances.

While ebay offers paypal/google check out services - it protects the consumers from fraud too, once you file a fraud report.

Unfortunately, craig’s list is based on “trust”. It does not protect you in any ways if you paid cash. However, you must report this fraud.

Here’s the phone number from the website:
Who should I notify about fraud or scam attempts?

  • FTC toll free hotline: 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357)
  • FTC online complaint form (http://www.ftc.gov)
  • Canadian PhoneBusters hotline: 888-495-8501
  • Internet Fraud Complaint Center (http://www.ic3.gov)
  • Non-emergency number for your local police department.

If you suspect that an item posted for sale on craigslist may be part of a scam, please email the details to “[email protected]”. Be sure to include the URL (or eight-digit post ID number) in your message.

I doubt u can do much abt it
craiglist has already taken care of all of such activities through craigslist | about > scams

I don't think you can do much about it Mirch bhaii as you paid cash but still you can try and talk to that idiot.

I read all about it before I started calling local people that is why I did not want to give him check , then I also wanted him to call me so that I could go pick it up instead of mailing me. I thought that will act as a deterrent for anybody to cheat.

I think so too , even if he agrees to return my money I do not want to go and pick it up. He might have some other plans. I do not want to give that cheat my address either. I will ask him to meet me in a McDonalds if he ever agrees to return the money.

Re: I became victim of a fraud how do I get my money back.

why don't you just tell him straight up - it's not working and what he gave was a simply not workable, it was missing the key or whatever and you don't have access. See what he tells you. Don't be afraid. Tell him you would like to EXCHANGE it with another one.

...and if things don't look good, then you have learned the lesson hard way =( you can really not save much if things look too good to be true! as Lucid said.

Re: I became victim of a fraud how do I get my money back.
