Yadav denies any India player revolt over Pakistan tour
Greg Buckle (Reuters)
Melbourne, December 28
India team manager Shivlal Yadav said on Sunday a report that the side's tour of Pakistan in February was in doubt because of a player revolt over security issues was completely untrue.
"It's all rubbish," Yadav told Reuters at Melbourne Cricket Ground during the third day's play of the third Test against Australia.
"There is no truth in it."
The Chairman of the Pakistan cricket board (PCB) expressed optimism on Saturday that the Indian team's tour to Pakistan would not be derailed following security concerns after the suicide bomb attempt on President Pervaz Musharraf in Rawalpindi.
"What happened on Thursday is of grave concern to everyone and bad for the country. But I remain optimistic that if the SAARC conference goes ahead on schedule than the Indian tour will also be held as planned," Shaharyar Khan told a news conference in Karachi.
Reports in the Indian newspaper Mid-day said on Saturday the Indian players currently touring Australia had taken a unanimous decision not to tour Pakistan in February 2004 in view of security threats in Pakistan.
The newspaper reported that the players, who had been discussing the issue for the last two days, took their final decision in the dressing room at the end of the opening day's play in the third Test against Australia.
A letter that records the players' concerns and their resolve not to go is likely to be faxed to president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India Jagmohan Dalmiya, the report said from Melbourne.
"No such letter has been sent anywhere. Nobody has discussed this at all," Yadav said.
Shaharyar said he was aware of the concern caused by the incident on Thursday and would be holding talks with Indian board officials.
"The tour by the Indians is of great political importance for both countries and is just not a cricket tour," Shaharyar said.
India is due to tour Pakistan for a series of matches yet to be decided from February, the first full tour by an Indian team to Pakistan since 1989.
The two countries have not had bilateral cricket ties since early 1999 due to diplomatic and political differences.

^ Does not surprise me. This might very well be true. These things usually start off as rumours. Any more bombings in Pak and you will notice that I am not the only one wanting this tour to be called off.
Ganguly denies fears over Pakistan security
MELBOURNE: Security concerns are playing on the minds of some of India’s top cricketers ahead of tour to Pakistan but skipper Sourav Ganguly maintained on Saturday there was no truth in such rumours doing the rounds here.
In the backdrop of assassination attempts on Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf, at least three senior members of the Indian team are said to be concerned about security when the side goes to Pakistan in about two months. Ganguly, however, denied that there was any talk of players pulling out of scheduled tour of Pakistan. "I have also heard such rumours. There is no truth in it," Ganguly told newsmen in Melbourne on Saturday.
Indian captain said the team was more concerned of doing well in the ongoing third Test against Australia rather than think about the Pak tour which is more than two months away.
"Right now we are busy with the Test. We have not even thought about the issue or the security matter which is said to concern us."

Someone
i can see what you are pointing to here but there is one thing i would like to add
never, i repeat never in history has anyone ever tried to harm any member of the visiting sports teams. not once has ever there been even a threat against them.
even during the tours in the 1980s when Pakistan and India came close to war on more than one occassion tours went smoothly.
Never has anyone tried to harm any foreign head of state, MPs or any other type of VIP who was here as a guest
if someone want to kill Indians than i think Vajpayee would be the biggest target for these people even bigger than the whole Indian Team
lets see what happens when he arrives here for the SAARC summit.....

That would make me feel good...if it was not for Daniel Pearl, 15 French Naval Engineers, family of an American Embassy diplomat.... by the way, the bomb that killed the French could have gotten the NZ cricket team too.

Some1 the target was not the NZ cricket team and for that matter the Pakistani team was also in that very hotel.
Daniel Pearl was not here as a guest of the state
nor was he offered the top level of security that the Indian Team is being offered
If you have doubts check with the South African and New Zealand cricket teams who came here and also with your own junior cricket team which was here few months back
I repeat has there been any incident where sports people were targeted in Pakistan or even so close as to someone talking bout stopping the Indians from playing here
unlike Shiv Sina no leader from Pakistan ever threatened a team from India nor was any pitch dug up here ever
just a stupid rumour nothing more!!!!!
Pakistan tour on, say Dalmiya and Ganguly
Wisden Cricinfo staff
December 28, 2003
Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of the Indian board, and Sourav Ganguly have denied reports that the Indian team is keen to call off their tour to Pakistan, which is scheduled for February 2004. According to Mid Day, the team had faxed a letter to the board expressing their concern about security in Pakistan, but both Ganguly and Dalmiya denied the story. “I have also heard such rumours,” Ganguly said in a report in The Times of India. “There is no truth to them.”
Dalmiya, too, stated that he had no idea about such a letter being sent to him. “It’s news to me. There is no information about any letter being faxed to me or anyone making any phone call to me seeking to opt out of the Pakistan tour.”
Dalmiya insisted that the tour was very much on. “The itinerary for the series in Pakistan is still to be finalised. The board is working on the details of the fixtures and venues.”
The report in Mid Day had stated that the Indian players were worried after recent assassination attempts on Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan’s president. There were two such attempts over a 12-day period earlier this month, forcing Musharraf to shift residence for security reasons.

After the second assassination attempt on Musharaff in less than 12 days... I am seriously concerned about the safety of the Indian players when they tour Pakistan in February 2004. Forget about India's allegations about Pak supporting terrorism in Kashmir etc., I feel that this tour should be called off because of the threat to the Indian players' safety alone. I mean , we cannot make Indian cricketers scapegoats for the sake of the present India-Pak bhai-bhai fanfare.
Please dont get me wrong on this.... I have no doubts that the PCB will ensure the best of security for the Indian team... but the fact that the security of the head of the state has not been capable of warding off suicide bombers makes me kindaa nervous... Please dont get back to let me know that the Pak team toured India after the Shiv Sainiks dug up the pitch and threatened to disrupt the tour... firstly , I dont want to make this another India-Pak bashing thread...and secondly a bunch of coward Shiv Sainiks cannot be compared to highly motivated and ruthless Jehadis who take to suicide bombing rather easily to get their point across.
So please tell me , what security will stop a suicide bomber from lunging out of the crowd onto the Indian players walking to the ground or fielding at the boundary....

The India team should be worried about terorism if theyre gonna go around the country in Musharraf's convoy.
The people who carried out the attack want Musharraf!!thats it. If they wanna kill Indians, they can kill the staff of the high commission n consulates. Its very easy for them. They carried out an attack on Musharafs convoy, i dont think they would have problems killing the Indian high comissioner.

Last time I was at Gaddafi stadium for the Pak-SA ODIs, there was thorough checking and i wasnt allowed to take a bottle of water into the stadium so that people wouldnt throw them on the touring team. If water isnt allowed inside the stadium, i dont think bombs are!!
you cant throw anything onto the field or get on the field, there are like a hundred policemen in each inclosure, the fence is quite high n the boundary has been shortened!!!
