Omar Mahmood: I am Urdu - The Michigan Daily
Agree??
Re: I am Urdu
Can you summarize that?
Re: I am Urdu
I think he's trying to push "Urdu" as an ethnic label, which doesn't exist & shouldn't & he also fearing that Urdu might be dying, which couldn't be further from the truth since Pakistan is an Urdu supremacist state & thanks to the Pakistani govt and Bollywood, Urdu spreading to the non native speakers in South Asia, so his fears are unfounded, it only holds true for Urdu-speakers in the diaspora who may forget their language like any other immigrant would.
Re: I am Urdu
The article is so heart touching. It is truly sad to see a language so beautiful lose its place as the lingua franca of our society.
I think he is more concerned about the younger generation forgetting Urdu or taking no interest in learning Urdu. I think its a great article also because language is very important part of any culture. Its sad that many native Urdu speakers don't think.its important that their kids learn Urdu too.
