I am starving.

I seriously want to reduce weight. So I started this plan.
I eat a couple of slices of whole wheat bread( double roti) with chi while driving to work.
For lunch I eat salad but that salad gets digested in a couple of hours and I get so starved. By the time I get home I feel like eating a whole cow but I control myself and eat just one whole wheat pocketless pita with some desi salan.
But I feel starved all the time. I do not do any snacking in between.
Advise me should I snack on something when I am so starved, and what should be those snacks.
I am type II diabetic so advise accordingly.

Re: I am starving.

i started to eating a whole grapefruit btw lunch and dinner...i knw its not the best tasting fruit but its suppose to be really good and the skin on it (the thin inner skin) suppose to keep you feeling full..

another thing, have some oatmeal in the morning (for breakfast) that too ll keep you feeling full for a while.

other thn that have these for snacks: apple, bag of graphs, or mini carrots, pudding, yogut, nuts, cereal trail mix and others....

Re: I am starving.

Hi Mirch,

If you're trying to lose weight, you eat healthy and exercise (cardio and weights) for faster and better results.

The key to diet is to eat low calorie foods that keep you full for a longer period of time. Fruits contain fiber and they keep you full for longer. So for snacks consider eating apples, for example. Protein also keeps you fuller.

So, for breakfast, you can have glass of milk (protein) and an apple. that will keep you fuller for longer.

And for lunch, try baked sweet potato which is loaded with fiber and keeps you feeling fuller for longer time period. Another strategy is to mix protein in your salad. For example, put diced egg and chicken in your salad. This is healthy and will keep you full and the calories are not too high.

Re: I am starving.

Mirch - you are eating too less. You need to start eating more proteins in your diet. Along with whole wheat bread. You need to have a boiled egg or omelette.

At lunch and dinner - increase things like chicken, keema, steaks. Keeping you carbs low but adding protein in your diet will not only help you loose wieght but help you maintain your sugar levels.

Are you any type of medicine such as metformin /glucophage?

Re: I am starving.

For someone that is type II diebetic - potatoes and rice and anything startchy are not good options.

Re: I am starving.

What about including few glasses of green smoothies in your diet? They keep you full for a longer time

Re: I am starving.

^do u mean a green tea smoothies????...just wondering

Re: I am starving.

No, I’m talking about smoothies made with green leafy veggies and fruits. Recipes

Re: I am starving.

Mirch uncle you are not eating enough. You should snack on fruits in between. If you have a heavy meal, do not forget to have green tea after that.

Re: I am starving.

well ofcourse Mirch bhai, you must be starving. As other members above rightly said that you are eating too less. You are only going to do your body harm if you continue with this diet. What you need is a balance of everything but in a low quantity. You need protein , carbs , and healthy fat in your diet regardless of whatever your goal may be. Keep in mind since you are a diabetic patient, you are not going to loss weight quickly as you may want. Its going to take a little more time for you but you can definitely get to your ideal weight. Eat healthy but low in quantity. Try thinking about quality of the food that you're putting in your mouth rather than the quantity. Eat fruits in between, or if possible eat oatmeal. Avoid potatoe chips, frizzy drinks etc for your snacks. Remember, eat everything healthy but in moderation. You should know when you need to stop eating. Eat things which can keep you full for atleast 3 hours ( consider things containing fibre and protein ) and then eat again after 3 hrs.. I wish you all the very best. Also i'd encourage you to go gym or if not that go for brisk walking outside for half an hour to see the results fast.

Re: I am starving.

Thanks everybody for your input. I got very value able insight into this. Today I brought an apple , an orange, a bag of mini carrots to snack on. I will not consume all of them surely , just there to snack on when I feel hungry. I will add some protein to my lunch too.

Re: I am starving.

If you are trying to lose weight it also helps to have a heavy breakfast, a medium lunch - the lightest meal should be dinner. Most of us don't eat like that and just stroll of with a chai in the morning but that makes you eat more during the day.

You can have an 2 egg omelette, 2 whole wheat toast, and a fruit for breakfast.
Grilled chicken sandwich for lunch, yogurt, and fruit
and then do a salad with chicken/shrimp for dinner

Also add a handful of nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts) as a snack.

Re: I am starving.

^ hey i m glad to see that u r planning on eating healthy snacks...believe me that will help a lot .

good luck and keep us updated :)

Re: I am starving.

interesting…

Re: I am starving.

eat healthy, dont starve. dont create a calorie deficit of over 200-300 calories a day unless you enjoy starving your brain and being exhausted.

work out work out work out work out work out.

Re: I am starving.

Mirch , please keep a check on your sugar levels as well whilst you are on a diet .. coz fruits have sugar as well ... and my mum always keeps a close eye on her sugar levels when she is particularly dieting with lots of fruit intake..... she goes for rather less sugary /glucose fruits like orange , pemegranade, guava etc ...

also the focus should be on proteins more then anything else ... my colleague is in a similar situation to yours .. diabetic and wants to reduce weight, his GP recomended him protein snacks ... he gets chicken nuggets , has one or two every few hours ... seems like its working on him..

Re: I am starving.

Thanks for this piece of advice it will surely help me. I do keep an eye on my sugar level and avoid all sugary fruits. My doctor's advice is to eat only citrus fruits that too a small one after every meal but for now I am using it as in between meals snack and only once or twice a day.
