Re: I am so disorganised
Procrastinator extraordinaire here, so you're in good company. Like right now, I'm pissing away time on GS that would otherwise be spent doing something productive. Like sleeping. First find out why you're procrastinating - boredom, fear of failure, you hate your job, etc, then find a way to overcome it.
I'm told the fastest way to break this habit is to prioritize your tasks in order of significance + time-sensitivity, and then tackle the most important thing on your to-do list, first. You'll be tempted to start with things that can wait, like sorting your desk, dusting, or stacking books ("getting organized"), but that's another way of resisting the inevitable. If the task in question is too big/daunting, pick 1 thing that you can complete in 5 minutes, like make a quick phone call or pay a bill. Once that's done and you've gained a little confidence, jump into whatever you're avoiding like the plague. Just take a deep breath and do it.
ps. Studies show that how you start your day sets the tone for the rest of the day. So if you successfully complete a task first thing in the morning, even if it's small, your productivity will spike.
Thanks for this! Its really helpful.
I think I hide away from daunting/large tasks. Like if there is a long form to fill out then I leave it until I am in trouble for not doing it. I dont organise my bank statements because looking at them is daunting. I just avoid it!
Its a seriously bad habit that needs to be addressed.
At the moment I have 2 large important applications to fill out regarding student finance.
I also have to start looking at my job applications. They got released on monday and have to be in on friday the 21st. Its not wednesday and I have looked at them once. I cannot leave them to the last minute! thats just utter stupidity.....but why am I not attempting them?
ARGH
Woke up this morning with weird anxiety!
Enigmatic - I like your suggestion of sitting down when I have time and sorting things out I am going to do that over a weekend this month!
