I am not a happy camper these days [split]

You’re right. My mom tells me the same as well:) The above are all valid reasons. However, I’m referring to people who overdo things and display a **pattern **of **extreme **behavior. Not us.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Oh my gosh! That's probably why all my brothers preferred non-fiction! I guess it's rubbed off on me. I was the only one who read fiction in my house! lol. I was also in love with Agatha Christie for the longest time, once I got done with my Nancy Drew phase.

Which reminds me- when we were younger my bros and I would always fight about who was better Nancy Drew or The Hardy boys. But since my brothers outnumbered me by 3:1, the Hardy boys always won hands down, cause I just couldn't argue with three people at one time! ha ha.

My youngest bro, however, likes to read books on aliens for some reason. He is OBSESSED WITH THEM!!!

oh i know! why would you think it was us? :konfused:

LOL…it was just a general reflection Jamun. I never said it was us. My comment was meant as a jokey sort of clarification, LOL. We were simply having a healthy discussion on our experiences and observations which allows us both to learn from one another’s ideas:) A rather stimulating intellectual exchange, I would say! LOL.

About mysteries…I’m really picky about them. I never read Nancy Drew as a kid. But I read Nancy Drew for an educational literature class…and I dindn’t like it. The mystery aspect in the story was good. However, I was somewhat turned off with how perfect Nancy was made to be as the main character. Not only was she supposed to be a brilliant detective, she was also pretty, and charming, etc. As a reader, i like my characters to have flaws because that adds more depth to their personalities.

For young adults, I would recommend the mystery book, From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankenweiler. I never read this as a kid but enjoyed it as an adult. It’s about a girl and her brother who run away from home and spend the nights in a museum where the come across a mystery regarding the masterpiece of a famous renaissance artist.

As a kid, I grew up on the books written by Judy Blume. She’s a common favorite for many young girls. Oh, I **LOVED **her casual style of writing. I’ve read almost all her books and still enjoy revisiting them as an adult. She’s written books for adults, which are complex and entertaining.

The most recent mystery that I read was the best-selling novel, The Thirteenth Tale. It is about a renowned author who, a long time ago, wrote a book titled The Thirteenth Tale…BUT the book only has 12 tales. Her health is failing and she knows she will die soon…so she invites a journalist to come stay with her and learn about her life and it’s significance to the missing 13th tale. In learning about the author’s life, the journalist is able to analyze the grief in her own life and tie up some loose threads with her parents.

I’m going to hold off for a while before reading Sense and Sensibility. BUT…Reha and Mina, if you guys have any book recommendations, fire away! Mina, I dont’ think I’m going to read The Other Boelyn Girl because I’ve already seen the movie. BUT, I do enjoy the medieval time period. For a while I was obssessed with it and only read novels relevant to the that era. So, if you have any good scandalous historical fiction books in mind…lemme know!

This brought tears to my eyes as it reminded of my youth playing video games with my bros and his friends!

You be my princess
I’ll be your toad
I’ll follow behind you
on rainbow road
Protect you from red shells
wherever we go
I promise.
Noone will touch us
if we pick up a star
If you spin out
you can ride in my car
When we slide together
we generate sparks
in our wheels and our hearts
The finish line
is just around the bend
I’ll pause this game
so our love will never end
Let’s go again
The blue shell is coming
so I’ll go ahead
If you hang behind
it’ll hit me instead
but never look back
cause I’m down but not dead
I’ll catch up to you
Don’t worry about
Bowser or DK
Eat this glowing mushroom
and they’ll all fade away
to the mushroom cup
and the flower cup
and the star cup
and the reverse cup
walalalalala
walalalalalawaluigiiiiii

haha I wanna go play mario kart now!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

I take a lot of pride in the gifts that I give ladies. I dont care what anyone gives me, I will gift well because it represents me and what kind of a person I am. I never do the bare minimum, even with people I dont like. If Im going somewhere, I take something and if a gift is required...its usually something good. I cant stand bad presents and never want to be one of those people whose stuff gets exchanged!!!! LOL.

Ladies, I love flowers. In fact, I adore big white lillies, red roses, white roses, sunflowers, big bunches of daisies, etc. I want flowers in every corner of my house someday, lol. :)

Reading...well Im still stuck on my Grisham because I havent had time to read it really. It goes with me in my bag everywhere but havent been able to crack it open and sit down and finish it. Sense and Sensibility is a great read but if you want to mix it up a bit then read something from a totally different genre...like chic lit...although Im not sure if you're into chic lit like I am...lol. I actually love the stuff. IF you are, a recommendation is the Little Lady series by Hester Browne...loved all three or four of them!!!

OMG!! I'm a grisham fan!!!! I read too many of these. We call them "fast fictions" (i.e not good for SAT studying, only for your entertainment books, lol) in our house.

Anyways, you know what the two Grisham books I thought were the wierdest were? The bleachers, and the the painted house. It was really a departure from his "lawyer/murder" books! lol. I also loved the The Runaway Jury! And for some reason I have "the testament"

But I must say, "the bleachers" and "the painted house," I felt like he was trying to write a classic. And unlike his other books, I wanted to read them over and over again.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

I do enjoy Chic Lit.......will look into the Little Lady series. As for flowers......they are sweet. And I'm developing a liking for cala lillies. They're such simple lovely things. Especially purple ones....my fave color. But other varieties are nice as well.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

^ I remember Mario Bros. I enjoyed playing that game......especially Mario Bros III....the graphics in that game were much more bigger, detailed, and cuter! I never liked the princess. Her only role was to be damsel in distress. It would have been cooler if she were given more opportunities to kick butt. I even remember watching the Mario Bros cartoon. I can't decide who i like better. They're both so cute. Often times, I liked Luigi cuz he seems so simple and sweet. But then Mario just looks like this adorable fat juicy marinara covered tomato that I wanna bite into! LOL....the good ole days!

Reflecting over these memories makes me realize that creativity is soooooo powerful. Such as music, for example. It's kinda cool to think that after dying, you're leaving behind a work of creative expression for people to enjoy. And isn't it cool how songs become intertwined with the history of our lives? The concept is so powerful. You listen to a song, and it reminds you of your childhood. You listen to another song, it reminds you of when you were a teen in high school. Then another song reminds you of your first crush or an incident in your life. They're almost like little divider tabs for the folders of our lives. Call it nostalgia or reminscing.......it's fun to revel in a song from the past.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

I totally know what you mean...Backsteet Boys remind me of high school. Listening to their romantic songs with the windows down and singing like our hearts would break because we had a crush on this guy who didnt know we were alive...LOLOLOL!!! I used to do that with old desi songs too by the way, just between you and I. Those were such beautiful days...my biggest problem was what perfume I would wear the next day or how I could get away with eyeliner and mascara in school or who stole my homework...hahahaha! I miss my high school days...

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Me too, Reha. And u know what the funny thing about high school is? While you're going through it......you don't like it.....you might even think you have the BIGGEST problems. And as an adult when you look back........you realize those times were **in fact **more carefree! Yes my issues were physical appearance, being able to get a slice of Pizza during last lunch hour, and getting that homework assignment done before the bell rang for class. Oh and the crushes!

I remember the Backstreet Boys!!!!!!!!!! It's funny how now the group has split up........it seems as if they never existed. It may not be the coolest thing to admit listening to their songs, but they weren't bad at all. Examples, "As Long As You Love Me" **......"Quit Playing Games With My Heart" ** and "I Want It That Way". LOOOOOOOOL. And Ill be honest......it's FUN to listen to those songs when the occasionally come up on the radio.

I also liked listening to Mariah Carey in high shcool and i still like some of her song. She had a cleaner image back then (sigh). And desi songs can get you fantasizing as well. Not just the contemporary ones.....but also some of the hits from the late 80's such as the songs from the movie, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. You familiar with that one? CLASSIC! I think we should revisit some of those classics in this thread!

hun, don't go back in time too much! your too young for that! Stay busy making memories for when you are truly older! Because today will soon become the past, and you'll have plenty time to reminsce when your 90 with your grandkids. So make today a happy memory, or write a song for today!

i'm going to go play mario kart now at my school with someone (yes, they have all the video games with a flat screen in the lounge at my school, hee hee!!).

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

^ Thanks Gulab Jamun. I'm attached to the past, BUT **I also understand the **importance of living in the present **and taking action in the present to helps create a better **future. Don't worry, I get that. But reminiscing is an **innate **aspect of human nature.

And its fun to look back on happy memories from the past while also creating new ones. The past has it's special importance. It teaches us lessons, it shapes us into the individuals we are today, and sometimes it can even help keep you grounded, sane, and humane.

And there are many factors to be considered. Of course dwelling on a negative painful past is not healthy cuz it prevents you from moving on. But it can teach you a lesson and make u stronger.

The PAST is an ancient world in each of our lives that is sweet, painful, haunting, and magical.

Opening the door to the PAST leads to a bitter-sweet **world that can (if used in the right way**) help u find inner strength, liberate your soul, soothe some aches, and salvage threads in our bonds with others!

The PAST is a strangely beautiful world. And beauty doesn't necessarily have to be perfect or pain-free.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days…

Ohmigosh, I LOVE the song from Qayamat se Qayamat Tak!!!

I sang it in my voice journal with my crappy sqeeky voice but I did it!

ALRIGHT, REHA!!! Wow, we have many similarities! I haven’t sung it in the voice journal yet…BUT this is my fave song from Qayamat se Qayamat tak! You’ve NO idea how many times I’ve sung this as a kid, or listened to it. I LITERALLY know this song BY HEART! I even know the beat of the song when it starts. And I LOOOOVE the tick-tock-tick-tock-tick-tock noise of the clock that takes place before the song actually begins. Know what I mean? It just makes the perfect prelude. I like the other songs from the movie as wel, BUT “Aye Mere Hamsafar” is the one i like best. I guess it was destiny when I knew I wanted to be friends with you…cuz we have similar interests, LOL! You know, I used to have huge crushy wushy on the actor, Aamir Khan and lemme tell ya, it all started with THIS very movie! Now, I don’t like Aamir Khan as much any more, although he is still a taleted actor!

Have you seen the movie Fanaa? What do think of the song, Fanaa (the SubhanAllah) Chand Sifarish one? How about that for your mehendi entrance? Or is it too strong and loud?

Have you heard “Tera Kangna” by Shahzad Roy (wink wink)…that might work. Its a cute song from not too long ago.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days…

I just wrote down that Piya ke rang rangde ni orni song…I know which one you’re talking about too. How does this one sound:

This is a yummy song too…Im not sure yet but this is a strong possibility. For the mehndi, I want something really loud and fun! Because its my fun day, if that makes any sense.

Whaddaya think?

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Aamir Khan has always been so romantic looking and just (fobby) DASHING! I just love him...his new look is very cute too but I read somewhere that he cheated on his wife and that kinda turned me off to him.

I love that song toooooooooooooooo! The funny thing is, I used to sing it all the time and then I forgot about it. Then, all of a sudden I heard it in his car and started singing along...ohmygosh the memories!!!!!!!!! I love it, love it so much. Im creating the tracks that will play on both days and this is part of the wedding day songs. Im going back in time and pulling out some favorites of mine and mixing it up!!! Aisha, I think in a past life...we were sisters...lol.

remember that no mehndi is complete without this song:

I have yet to go to mehndi that someone hasn’t sang or danced to this song. lol

I just love this song too for mehdni or shadi!!!

this one you’ll like because it’s not heard so often, and it’s one of the more beautiful songs. I think it was was from Aish’s first bollywood movie

GULAB JAMUN…I beg to DIFFER! I am allergic to this song! I have heard it soooo many times in almost all mehendis…that it induces a sort of **suffocating **feeling in me. Others might enjoy this song, and I have no problem with that. BUT I have VOWED to myself and I am not KIDDING when i say this…I have made a SERIOUS MENTAL NOTE TO MYSELF.…that this song WILL NOT play at my mehendi. I don’t mind if a group of aunties get together and sing it while beating an oblong desi drum with a spoon…BUT the actual song itself…will not play at my wedding.

I will try my BESTEST to AVOID this song. If I have to, I will tell my sister to make sure it’s not on the playlist. I will tell my future fiance to make sure it’s not on the play list. I will pay the DJ extra to make sure its not in the play list.

THAT is HOW STRONGLYi feel about this song. I’m allergic to it. The **OTHER **song that I’m going to try my best to make sure it DOESN"T play on my mehehndi is **“Layja Layja” **from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum. It’s so rehashed and overdone…that its beginning to produce similar allergic symptoms in me!

You other pick, Ajooba, however is a nice and unique one.
