Seriously, I feel I am in a process of gradual decline of my mental faculties. My spelling is shot, my reading and language comprehension skills are blunted…its scaring me.
Perhaps its just a phase. I return to college in sept, and can ill afford such a decline now.
^^ mental abilities are best preserved when trained;)
try to stay intellectually active, even far from school
by the way, declining mental abilities at young age can be due to poor diet: alck of vitamins, iron, essential fat...typically an unbablanced diet with too much junk food can lead to fatness AND lack of essential fat, vitamins, iron....it is denutrition among obese people!
you may consider eating more fruits, veggies, meat and fish...but dropping carbs...they also put brain to sleep (the carbs)

This is honestly very true. I went on the South Beach Diet sometime back, and I have to say, my mind awoke after going on it. You might want to get some metabolic tests done and make sure the metabolism is ok.
I took time off before starting my graduate program and sometimes I feel really dumb, but I realize that its my habits that I need to change, moreso than my intellect. I think its more a case where I have tuned out to certain things and now I have to sharpen my skills again.
Some tips would be to start reading books, books that require some critical thinking. Books on your subject of choice are good, but so are other books.
Also, start writing. My friend said she had lost touch with her writing ability until she started writing again for her graduate program. Then it all came back.
