I admire Afridi for what he did.

Fine, because of him you might say that the whole world will call us cheats. The whole world doesn’t think much of us as a country, let alone of our cricket team. So who cares.

On the side note, I sure hope so that he doesn’t repeat his mistake again but I do admire his spirit of winning the game by hook or by crook. That goes to show you that how much he wanted our team to win. I admire his dedication and his commitment to win the match. At least he DID something to win the match. What did M. Yousuf did to win matches ? Lousy placement of fielding ? Shi**y Captaincy ?

At least Afridi showed that he has the lust to see his country win. It takes balls, courage and immense effort to unit your team and lift the spirit of its team mates to try to win the last match, even though the series was already 4-0. When was the last time you saw a Captain with that kind of energy in the field and the ability to unite the players ?

So yes, he has my full support. We all make mistakes, no one is perfect and no one ever will be. What he did is in the past, he is the only hope for Pakistan. I hope he learns from his mistakes and moves on. Mark my words, he will change our team all-around in near future. He is the ONLY person after Imran Khan who has the courage, balls and the charisma to change things in our cricket team.

Afridi didn’t tamper the ball for his own interest, he did just so that our team could win the last match. He could have cared less as it was the last match, but he so much wanted to win this last match, that he did what he did, against his better judgment.
Just my two cents.

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

thanks God, there is someone who is taking it as positivity.. :hugz:

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

Winning and that too by cheating is the biggest sign of desperation. Being such an experienced player Afridi acted like a complete idiot !!

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

yeah, another positive aspect of the situation is that he's going to get a lot of offers to do chewing gum and toothpaste commercials..

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

what i saw was how rana and asif were right next to afridi while he chewed the ball. and they did not blink an eye. and afridi did not tell any other bowler to do this he was the captain and he took the lead to chew....

I admire your point of view but have to disagree with it completely. You have to understand that if the whole world does not think much of Pakistan as a country, the repercussions would be there. It would be that much harder for ordinary Pakistanis to get visas to travel abroad. You might say that it does not matter. The world is becoming a global village and it is essential that people have a good opinion about the country..

That said, I think Afridi was a big idiot who needs to have his head examined. He perfectly knew that there would be cameras watching his every move on the field. Umpires do check the ball regularly and it was just not on to tamper with the ball. Maybe he was doing it to get caught to prove a point or something. I dont know what the point he was trying to make. Maybe it was just that he was a complete idiot...

:k:

Sadly the pak criciket team is like the pak government useless and a failure.

Afridi is good player but he has no brain. We need a strong captain and management who don't tolerate this kind of behaviour and more important improve performance on the cricket field.

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

What Afridi did required balls or required stupidity? I am not sure would agree about the balls part. I think it was more stupid and unwise. And now he will pay by not playing in T20 and unbalancing the squad because we are short of attacking bowler.

But I'd also like to point out when Stuard Broad recently used his spikes on the boot to stop the balls in SA, he were not charged by the match refree and ICC. So I think this was more obvious then that, but I also think that this also shows again the bias of ICC match refrees towards Pakistan yet again.

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

Spirit of winning the game? lust to see country winning? :omg:

Spirit and lust my @$$

This is not called spirit , this is called C.H.E.A.T.I.N.G (no matter how you wrap it in pretty paper)

This idiot most probably brought the shame to country (2nd time by the way) because he wanted to win the game for personal reason i.e to show that he has in it and he should be made captain.

He has shown from time to time (by his TV/media interviews) that he is member of herd/team who is waiting to take his own captain down whenever he gets a chance and this time his lust of power/captaincy made him to do the thing that brought the shame to country.

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

^ good points DC. Afridi is the epitome of selfishness. He quit Test cricket just to free himself for IPL.

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

Afridi has taken sucking balls to a new meaning

:)

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

To a certain degree…I agree with Salman…

A desparate Afridi did it for the team…just to get himself banned for the next 2 ODIs…what a sacrifice!

PS: I have seen a lots of other ways of ball tempering…but chewing or biting the ball is a novelty to me and it appears to be an art form…for sure…others will follow Afridi… :jhanda:

well said.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a lot of us DO care, and rather than seeing the nation and its representatives keep at it to take us to skid row, we'd like for someone to do something positive for a change and make us proud.

I was happy to see that Afridi was leading extremely well until the fiasco... it was a pleasant change from the dreadfully docile captaincy we've seen over the last two months. However, nothing can excuse his despicable cheating antics. He needs to understand the difference between the "desire to win" - which is greatly missing from our team... and "winning at any cost" - which is not a sensible mindset in sports.

Having voiced my condemnation for this specific incidence, I still think in the current context, Afridi is perhaps the only option we have for a captain who can lead the team with the zeal that's needed... only if he can channel his aggression towards a more prudent form of dedication. I hope he's learnt his lesson, and we can see him back as a captain in the ODI and T20 formats.

completely nailed it...

future captain of PAK doing this its a shame for me shame for my nation...

Lucid bhai, you didn't burst my bubble. By whole world I meant all but us Pakistani's. We are Pakistani's and we are talking here because we care about what goes about our country and cricket team. So you are damn right, we do care about our country and cricket team, and that we should care less about what others think about us.

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

what he did was wroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong

but i liked how he lead the team

Re: I admire Afridi for what he did.

Yes, like how we admire young Pakistanis immigrating illegally to other countries and then crying 'racism' at slightest miscalculated action by host country's authorities.

We do admire cheats. Hell, we have a 10% president!
