Hello everyone…i got my periods after 4 months… :hinna: finally after a long wait without any “AF inducing meds” (like provera)…i dont know if u guys remember but i was diagnosed with PCOS and hypothyroidism and was put on metformin 1500 mg and synthroid. My thyroid levels have become normal Alhamdulilah. Im trying to conceive. My OBGyn wanted to get some tests done and refer me to a fertility specialist to accelerate the conception process. I got my FSH blood test done on day 3 of my cycle and Alhamdulilah its under the normal range. Now im gonna take appointment for hysterosalpingogram (HSG)…im a little scared and uncomfortable with this xray. I would like to hear the experiences and any suggestions from you ladies out there who went through this procedure. Wish me luck and remember in prayers!

I had it done. It was uncomfortable, but I did not experience the cramping that some people experience. It was manageable, sort of like a pap smear or something.
Do get under the guidance of a fertility specialist asap. It makes a world of difference.

I had it done, was uncomfortable with slight cramps. Overall, it wasn't as bad as I feared it to be. Good luck.

I don't think there's anything you have to avoid (maybe Google and check with your doc). A lot of people recommend taking a pain killer before hand, just to make it easier. I did not do it.

I had it done, it sure was uncomfortable. I felt no cramp at all beacuse I took two advils two hours prior to the test as advised by my OBGyn.

Hi AngelEyes - I have hypo too. Did you get tested for anti-thyroid antibodies?
Is the HSG the same thing as a pelvic ultrasound? If it is then I had that done and it is not painful just feels a little odd for a few mins.

No i dont think so.....i was just checked for my thyroid levels i.e. T3, T4 and TSH. and no HSG is not the same as pelvic ultrasound....in simple words, its the x-ray of the uterus :)

I had it done as well, it was just slightly uncomfortable, not painful......I did have some cramps after because the doctor mentioned I had a weird angle so when they injected the dye the procedure was a little more aggresive then it would have normally been.

I had it done too.Had heard and read that it can cause painful cramping.But it was nothing like that for me.Just a little bit uncomfortable and nothing more.Took some prophylactic antibiotics and some painkillers.There was some discharge for a day or so.

I have it tomorrow…and i AM nervous… :hinna: khair i have been told that a female technician would conduct this test for me. Should i be worried that why a radiologist wont be doing this test? Are these technicians capable enough for doing this test on their own?

If I remember well,the technician placed the catheter and injected the dye...the radiologist came in after a while to take the 'pictures'.Don't worry the technicians are well trained to do their jobs.For whatever scans I have had before and during pregnancy,it was always the techs doing them first and the doctors reviewing them later on (or sometimes doing them again if they thought they had to).

UPDATE:
I had my hsg today. It was like bad period cramps but bearable. The test took just about 10 mins .....Alhamdulilah everything seemed normal :) The technician will send the reports to my OBGYN so that we can take the next appropriate course of action. To all the ladies who got the HSG done....how long did the spotting last?i spotted a little on the day i had my hsg (on tuesday) its friday today but im still having very light spotting (light brown, noticeable only when i wipe....sorry to sound gross). Is it normal?
