Hysterosalpingogram/Blocked Fallopian tubes

Has anyone ever had one? I’m due to go for one soon. My dr explained what exactly will happen and what to expect, but i’d still like to hear others’ experiences.

Also, if your results came back that your tubes were blocked…what was the next course of action?

Re: Hysterosalpingogram/Blocked Fallopian tubes

The blocked tubes usually open when the dye passes through them, so its kind of a test and treatment in one package. I had it few months back, it was a bit uncomfortable and felt like periods pain but nothing intolerable.

Re: Hysterosalpingogram/Blocked Fallopian tubes

yup, had one done when i had the laprascopy too...left tube was was completely blocked/knotted/damaged by endometrial scar tissue. laser procedure did not rectify the problem, so we ended up having to go the IVF route.

Re: Hysterosalpingogram/Blocked Fallopian tubes

What is the cause of the tubes blockage?

Dr. Google said its caused by Pelvic inflammatory disease which is sometimes a result of STD (chlamidiya or gonorrhea), past miscarriages/abortions, appendix rupture, ectopic pregnancies, and endometriosis. ....if there is no history of either of these, is there anhything to worry about ??

Re: Hysterosalpingogram/Blocked Fallopian tubes

Most commonly it is because of tissue scarring causing adhesions because of any of the above issues you listed above. If there is no history of the above and the person has not suffered any signs and symptoms,I think it will be ok to say that most likely everything will be fine on the HSG.But not to scare you,the possibility might still exist.
If I recall I think IUD's for contraception if do not suit the woman can cause inflammation and subsequent scarring and tubal adhesions too.The doctors suggest doing a HSG as a preliminary requirement before they can proceed with other extensive treatment options. It is to rule out a common cause of infertility.

Re: Hysterosalpingogram/Blocked Fallopian tubes

just wanted to ask somthing might appear silly question but just wanted to know if you have a blocked FT you get your periods regularly?

Re: Hysterosalpingogram/Blocked Fallopian tubes

^ You can still have your periods if your tubes are totally blocked. The egg doesn't really trigger your period..

Re: Hysterosalpingogram/Blocked Fallopian tubes

I had one and it wasn't bad...just some slight discomfort. Thankfully the tubes weren't blocked
