Hypothyroidism, anemia, IBS, Gall Stones and my weight gain

Hello everybody!

I’ve been down with a variety of illnesses for the last 1.5 yrs. And these were detected one after the other. I work fulltime and often I have very little time to deal with myself. 2 months ago I was detected as a pre-diabetic and a high BP patient as well. I am 35 yrs old and trust me I’ve never been so low in my life ever. And my weight was 105 kgs and I am 5.6 feet in height. My knees and ankles hurt badly and I could barely walk a km without getting tired.

Almost everybody on my mom’s side has diabetes and BP. Unfortunately, my mother died of her first and last heart attack at the age of 36 and she had no pre-conditions of any illnesses. And now, with me being just a couple of months away from 36, I am really getting panicky!

A month ago, I decided to workout and start working towards a healthier life. I had to get my weight down, eat sensibly and at the right time, and the most important thing - sleep at the right time and get 8 hours of sleep everyday + a few more hours over the weekend.

I’ve been working out regularly and also taking my dogs out for a 30 mins walk in the evenings. I cut down on my television time and the time I spend in the kitchen. 100 mins a day, everyday, I’ve decided to dedicate for myself. I’ve ensured that important tasks at home + kids time is not affected. In fact, I take my 10 yr old along with me for evening walks.

Also, I’ve been maintaining a diet diary. I try to note down everything I eat. Although a few more healthier options can be added, this is all I can afford in terms of time as of now. Most of the food I carry from home although there are few things I have to buy from the office cafetaria.

My goal was to lose 30-35 kgs and I am already 5 kgs down. I’ll be listing out what I ate + what my workout was everyday. Hopefully, people who are in the same boat as I am (god forbid, there should be any) can try to lose weight along with me as well.

BTW, I got my gall bladder removed last year so gall stones are down in my list. But, removing the gall bladder has come with its own share of dietary restrictions. I cannot eat fried stuff and heavy starchy food. And because of my IBS, I have to eat limited raw veggies.

I am an eggitarian by diet (vegetarian + eggs only, no meat of any kind). From tmrw, I’ll start updating my diet for the day + my workout regimen everyday. Wish me luck!

Good luck :k:

Re: Hypothyroidism, anemia, IBS, Gall Stones and my weight gain

Best of luck! The most important thing is that you've taken positive steps in a lifestyle change. That, in itself, is a huge step!

Please share protein rich vegetarian recipes, I am also drastically cutting down my meat consumption for health reasons, so I'd love to learn some more "meaty" tasting vegetarian dishes.

Re: Hypothyroidism, anemia, IBS, Gall Stones and my weight gain

First of all, you got your gall bladder removed, so ur digestive system is not so strong at this moment,
Low energy levels, it means that food is not been utilized by the body,

some times Pre-diabetic is a symptom of overy diseases or hormonal imbalance
i would suggest to visit Gynecologist, she will check your hormone level, and ultrasound for PCOS

You have got a very good workout routine, Please watch some TV, it adds motivation to our weightloss and Try adding some good fat in your diet as well like fish, almonds, full fat milk

Wish you Best of luck,

Re: Hypothyroidism, anemia, IBS, Gall Stones and my weight gain

Khatti,

Am not really cooking many protein dishes. At the most, I roast some sprouts, cant digest them raw...although raw ones have more nutritive value. I make sprouts with different pulses everyday. Also, I use a different oil for cooking everyday.
Monday - groundnut oil
Tuesday - Sunflower oil
Wed - olive oil
Thu - Mustard oil
Fri - sesame oil
Sat - Soyabean oil
Sun - Rice bran oil

I bought small 100ml bottles and have made an oil bottle tray and have labelled it for each day of the week. This is to ensure that we get all the important nutrients from every oil.

Whenever I make something thats really yumm, I'll post it here :)

Re: Hypothyroidism, anemia, IBS, Gall Stones and my weight gain

Javeria,

Couldn't help removing the gall bladder :( I consulted more than 6 doctors and eventually when both my brothers-in-law and one of my sister-in-law (these guys are all docs too) too advised me to go for it, I gave in. I know its made a significant change on my digestive capabilities...and I have no option but to make some lifestyle changes now.

I piled on abt 30 kgs in 2.5 yrs and I need to get rid of this damn weight first :(
