Is it allowed in Islam?? For genuine issues such as wanting to stop smoking or building confidence to do something.

Hypnotherapy will take a person in a state of unconsciousness. That may be effective in case of stop smoking but on the other hand, person's good deeds will be invain. For example, in state of hypnotism if he offer namaz, that person won't be able to know/remember what he/she read while offering namaaz. So I'll say 'No'.

On the other hands, majority accepted that 'smoking' is 'impermissible [haram]' in Islam so one may avoid doing 'impermissible [haram]' thing/act.

I think it may depend on what type of hypnosis you are referring to a lot of people may blur the lines between hypnosis and clinical hypnotherapy. Clinical hypnotherapy is different from what you see on TV, you do not lose consciousness nor is it voodoo in which you invoke other spirits whatsoever. Clinical hypnotherapy puts you in a increased state of relaxation, and the positive suggestion or affirmations help heal you from pasta trauma or negative behaviors. I don't think as a means of attaining good health or a positive view there is anything that is haram in this. But I am not fully knowledgeable either.

goshhhh, my autocorrect is so wrong, it was supposed to be past trauma.

I typed that from my phone.

And pasta can traumatic and scary depending on who cooked it. :p

Thanks for the replies everyone I appreciate it. To all those that don't knw too much ab out it, refer to what polished gems wrote. It is exactly that. Due to many factors in my life, I feel like I am not able to live a positive and confident life. I was talking to a friend about my million and one issues that I've had in my life and she suggested that that may be the reason that I am unable to achieve so many things that I want to do. And she suggested a hypnotherapist might be able to help so i thought before I go to one, maybe i should check if its allowed or not.

Lethal kamikaze, hypnotherapy uses meditation to help the patient relax, and once they are relaxed they give suggestions that the mind is more open to. You are completely aware but relaxed, it doesn’t use any charms or pendants as shown on TV just the voice of the clinician and a guided script. That’s all I know. This is the only fatwa I found online to support your question, it’s a conflicting subject and something most people are unaware of but this link says yes. That's all I could find. I found more fatwas against it that for it, for treatment purposes this is the only answer I found.
