Hypnobirthing

Hi,

Has anyone here attended the hypnobirthing course where they teach you how to relax and various breathing techniques to help you through labour.

I am torn between going to the hypnobirthing course or the NCT antenatal course.

Actuallly, do tell us if you’ve done the NCT course too.

Thanks x

Re: Hypnobirthing

I didn’t take any courses even though i worked at the hospital I was having the baby in and all the courses were in the same building :bummer:

However, my deliveries were both very normal and i realized that at that time that course or no course, when it has to happen it does

Re: Hypnobirthing

I have just come back from giving natural birth and I tell you these breathing and relaxing techniques do help, I did a short course .. and I tell you I would have died without it, so do them if you have the chance. So you know what you will be up to and get to know your body a little better and at the time when you need it you will know what to do without having a midwife telling you at that time (and some midwives don't tell you as they think you should know them before coming into labour) and the midwife will actually be glad that you came prepared, think of it as an exam that you will be taking and you need to prepare for it, thats my opinion!

ps. what is a NCT antenatal course ?

I’m thinking about doing this hypnobirthing course HypnoBirthing in Cambridge, Loughton, Royston, London, Essex, Hertfordshire - Specialists in Pregnancy & Birth Hypnosis

Saadia, The NCT antenatal classes are the normal antenatal classes but a bit more intensive and in-depth and run by the National Childbirth Trust.

Courses for parents-to-be - NCT

The downside is that these courses are too expensive.

Hypnobirth is £250 and NCT is about £180!!

I do think i need them though to be better prepared and to overcome my fear of labour.

Re: Hypnobirthing

Oh! my course did not cost a lot, I could have gone twice a week but I went once a week for the last couple of weeks.

Course for parents to be is more general overall information for parents but the hypobirthing course is more to make your delivery easier and comfortable.

For me the second sounds more better as it might make your delivery easier which you might appreciate at that time.

I can only speak from experience, the first birth no preparation, no knowledge of breathing or relaxing techniques and I was in labour (don't want to scare you, its different for everyone) for 4 days, this time I swore myself, I better be prepared, so I read a lot, did the course, I drank this tee, know only the german name, (himbeerblättertea) and did sitting steam bath with some herbs and essential oil that tiggered the labour and loosened inside and I came in the hospital at 6 am with 4 cm opened and delivered at 12:58, it was quick compared to last time, that I was thankful for it.

SaadiaB, your experience has really helped me decide that i WILL do the courses. I'm quite nervous about birth and sometimes get extremely worried so i'm hoping that these classes will prepare me better and i will know how to handle a difficult situation better. I have never done any yoga or relaxation classes so i need all the help i can get. I'm hoping the hypnobirthing classes will allow me to keep in control more and i want as shorter labour as possible.

Your second birth sounds alot more positive and a better experience than before.

Apart from these classes i need your prayers too! xxx

Re: Hypnobirthing

Sparrow, inshaAllah you will be ok. I have heard a lot about Hypnobirthing on other forums and people swear by them. i could be wrong but i think you can purchase thier CD too and can practice at home if you dont want to shell out for the classes?

What helped me get through was the realisation that women have been doing this for centuries now and if they all could do it, means my body is made to go through this. Its not going to be easy and much harder if you are afraid of the pain. So try to let go and embrace things as they come.
