HHD is little faster than a conventional hard drive, but slower than SSD. for more storage little SSD-Like experience and reasonable price hybrid is good.
I have been sold to SSD. I cannot even think of having a conventional HDD on my laptop anymore.
Couple months ago i picked up a brand new Lenovo T430s. Came with
-Quad core cpu
-8GB RAM
-180 GB SSD
I got a decent deal so i jumped on it. Best. Decision. Evar!
My main purpose is to run virtual machines, at times 5-6 of them in parallel. Initially i thought of upping the RAM from 8 to max 16 but then i saw how super fast VM's run on SSD. The same VM on a conventional HDD with 4 GB RAM runs slower than a VM on SSD with 512 MB RAM.
Since this is the T430*s*, it has an additional goodie. Next to the RAM slot you have a slot for an mSATA drive. This is a SSD the size of a third of a RAM chip. I picked up a 256 GB mSATA drive and now my laptop has 2 SSD's totallying about 400 GB.
Storage for major files (ISO's, Movies) is no issue. I always keep a 1TB USB 3.0 external drive handy. At USB 3.0 transfer rates, large files do not feel so large anymore.
Is eSata comparable to internal? In terms of transfer rate? Sorry, stupid question. Just wondering.
And mine is a desktop actually. But I may upgrade the hard drives in both the desktop and laptop. It's looking more and more like SSD might be worth the investment, I can probably wipe the other HDDs and use 'em strictly for storage.
I dont know about eSata but mSata yes is slightly slower than internal SSD. Wait a few month for prices to come down, you may be able to score a 512 GB SSD for $250-$300 in the near future.
