mukhtar[ra] was in prison at the time of karbala but was released on the recommendation of abdullah b umar[ra] …for a time he cooperated with abdullah b zubair in the defence of hijaz but later developed differences with him and led a movement to avenge the killers of hussain b Ali[as]
Obviously his movement did not have the high degree of spritual devotion that the tawwabun had …actually nowhere near them.But atleast it was a legitimate revolt against the ummayyads
