that’s because the wife is the only “outsider”. The rest are family and regardless of how much family members hate each other - they will still be united in front of outsider.
Now here’s the tricky part - The wify becomes part of the family - when a third party holds a fight. Then the wify is equally an “insider” and must support the family no matter how much hate is present. Cause now they are all united.
