Hurts after eating?

Recently in the last couple of weeks while on vacation, I had an irregular eating schedule and I noticed that everytime I had food after 11 pm, I would get sharp pains in the chest and upper back area. Now that I am back home, it continues to be like that- it starts just a few mins after eating and feels like someone’s poking you with needles or something  At times it lasts 2 hours or so. Anyone have any idea of what it could be?

Re: Hurts after eating?

Shay, this looks a lot like you have some gall bladder issues. It could be gallstones most probably. The pain can sometimes be unbearable and can last from just a few minutes to up to hours. Do you usually get them mostly after you eat fatty/greasy foods? You must go for an ultrasound immediately. They will be able to tell you whether it's a stomach ulcer, gallstones or otherwise.
Although from what you've written, it's very in sync with gallstones.

Shay, try a semi-liquid diet for 2 days.. like porridge and oats. Nothing with oil or spices. Inshallah it'll get better!

Re: Hurts after eating?

Thanks guys.
YP- That makes sense, I need to get it checked out. It happens even if I eat fruits.
Gina- Will try that too, thanks hun.
Just spoke to my husband too... he's saying it happens because I lay down immediately after eating food.. which then disturbs the acids and the digestion problem occurs and something about acid going into the asphagus.. so totally lost with his 'diagnosis'.

^ That cud be a reason as well, now that u're home try and eat around 7:30 pm Inshallah it'll be alright..

Re: Hurts after eating?

get it checked out asap shay... its def a gall bladder thing and u might have gall stones... my mom had the same thing recently and trust me it put us through alot just because the surgery was delayed by one day...

they might tell u that gall stones can be treated by modifying the diet, into a fat free one, but i think getting the gall bladder removed is a better alternative. again, the docs know better.

Re: Hurts after eating?

Shay, I also think that you are eating too late in the night and laying down right after so you're having symptoms of reflux and indigestion.

Re: Hurts after eating?

See a doctor ASAP.

Re: Hurts after eating?

Hope everything is ok inshallah! Nice to see you back though :)
In general, I always try to avoid eating too late at night, its not good

Shay eating late at night is not good ma be the pain is coming because you eat late and directly goes to bed, but its a good thing if you check woth doc.

Re: Hurts after eating?

Start with Zantac or some other antacid .. it will get OK, just don't eat too late as Niki and UZ said

Re: Hurts after eating?

For Gallbladder probs - pain radiates to the right shoulder - if thats where you are getting the pain then get it checked. Also, keep in mind what kind of diet you are having. If its bit fatty and then ur pain starts - [pain in right mid abdomen and then to the right shoulder] gallbladder alert - so get it checked.

Now, you said your pain starts in the chest - this is mostly the cause of acid reflux. Like TLK suggested try taking antacids or TUMS and if its not getting better then cut down on oily and spicey food and dont try to lay down right after eating. And make sure u elevate urself a little bit instead of laying totally flat, this will prevent reflux of any acid.

Last but not least, definitely get it check with your doc. Hope its nothing serious =)

Re: Hurts after eating?

Thanks everyone for the replies
I spoke to my hubby again and he told me the same stuff as Lois.. and even though I didn’t have the exact symptoms, I was really freaked out after reading comments here and went to the doctor. Alhumdulillah, it’s not gallstones.. I have been told to be careful and space out my meal and bed times. I did that last night and no pain  Hopefully it will stop soon.

Re: Hurts after eating?

^Thanks for update shay.
Thread got me scared too, I was about to cut my gallbladder open.
I had similar pain, but It mostly stopped after eating. It always started after I walk in cold wind or some thing.
Days I worked out I felt it. I started covering up my chest. And it stopped.
I had it in lower most ribs + upper tummy.

Shukr Alhumdulillah it is all good. Nice to know. Take care of yourself.

Re: Hurts after eating?

JK- It must be the cold.. like you said, it stops when you cover up, right? I have had the same pain a few months ago and everyone said it was ulcer.. all I had to do was take some anti-acid and it was gone.

Mirch- Thanks :)
