Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

We know about the recent outrage on the barbaric hunting of Cecil the lion by a dentist who was doing it more as a “sport” than anything.

Than there is this elephant killing for ivory or again for the sake of hunting.

And in Pakistan we know how Arab Princes visit every year to hunt many many species of birds some of which are getting extinct.

Do you or anyone in your family have this passion of hunting animals/birds? If yes Would you or they still do it after all these events?

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

i do agree that animals shouldn't be hunted for "fun"
but don't you think the reaction on this case was a bit over done?
there is so much frustration in general that people seize such opportunities and the whole issue get blown out of proportion...
what do you think about that?

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

Not at all, actually you gave the answer in the first statement yourself. See here is the thing and we need to be clear about it. We know that even meat eaters like us do kill animals but the purpose is to make it a part of our nourishment so that we can live and stay healthy. Now this creeper (i so wana use other words for him) took this entire thing as a "fun", he went all the way to Zimbabwe just becuz he had this passion to go after live animals and shoot them and see them dying and not only that, take pictures over dead bodies etc. This is so outrageous. Why not let them live? Especially when he had a collar and he was serving as a aid for research on Lion's behaviour by Oxford via satellite.
So no its getting the right coverage and that dentist deserves a punishment also becuz others can be forced to abondon this "shoq" or fun.

And this thing is actually doing a favor as today on BBC the oxford research institute was telling they hv already got 300K only from US since everybody is pouring money as donation to keep the research program continue of which Cecil the lion a part of.

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

wow! that saved them a lot of fund raisers! silver lining?!
and i guess you're right...
i think a lot of people; including me to be honest, thought, "what about all the people dying!?"
but come to think of it, those people are doing so much for what they believe in. Barbarism, no matter against human or animals IS barbarism...right?!

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

you are right that a ton of people are asking this question as what about human killing? And thats not a unfair question to ask.

Many people (mostly black) in US saying hey wut about black people dying as they propogate #BlackLivesmatter](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=BlackLivesmatter) slogan. Many saying what about Palestinians etc etc. But point being the same that any killing on the name of fun, sports, enjoyment or just for the sake of taking pictures is barbaric. Period.
And also as animal rights campaigners say and I second them that human can stand for human if there is something wrong. Who’ll speak for animals getting killed since ofcourse they themselves cant?! So being human, WE have to fix the problem we created ourselves by other fellow mislead humans.

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

But you and I both know it’s FAR easier to complain and criticise than actually DO anything about ANYTHING!
I can sit at home after a long days work and say, “those animal rights people are crazy…blah blah” and if someone asks me to actually move my lazy self from the couch and go to a protests for people dying…anywhere!..I’d have a thousand things to do suddenly.
No one’s ready to get up and fix the problem.
Everyone’s ready complain and whine though.

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

No i’m sure for this issue the outrage wont go unnoticed at all. Like I’ve friends who are animal rights campaigners and who have travelled entire Africa to campaign for stopping Elephant hunting in Kenya etc. They were a part of this protest as well which got great coverage:
‘Lifeless pile of tusks’ crushed in NYC to protest ivory trade](‘Lifeless pile of tusks’ crushed in NYC to protest ivory trade | PBS News Weekend)

But even if you cant do all this, the first step should always be the identification of a problem and calling spade a spade. If we start condemning something bad (to the least) may be our next generation will one day completely stop it so you gotto take it as a glass half-full.

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

I like how optimistic you are…good thing…=)…

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

I did hunting. But in few trips. I realize I could not.

I know its going to sound sad.
But many time, beautiful birds I saw for first time when We were shooting at them :(
I just couldn't. I think hunting should be banned. Period.

Hunting

So what about this activity makes a person feel so good?

Thank you! I didn't see the existing one.

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

Its not only you i'm sure. I still remember I was very small and used to listen stories lying beside my grandma. And her favourite ones to tell were some hunting stories by my and her forefathers somewhere in India and Nepal. Now when i think about it i feel more disgusted. That was certainly nothing to be proud of or boast and it should be discouraged.

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

The stories that I heard from my elders were only about those animals that were hunted to be eaten or hunted because they had become a danger to the nearby community (i.e. mostly lions and tigers that had tasted human flesh and were apparently no longer interested in anything else but that.)

I simply cannot imagine how anyone would find pleasure in brutally killing any living thing without need. And no, personal gratification is not a need.

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

PETA is consistent. Raises awareness about how cows, chicken, pigs etc are raised in terrible conditions injected with all.sorts of stuff to be grown for food.

We shoukd all stand up in protest against such conditions. Meat eating is fine. But having spend their lives in such conditions is not.

And yes. Let us also make killing of innocents by law enforcement top of the priority. While in theory we can do more than one task at a time, let us prioritize humans. And provide better conditions for livestick, cows, pigs etc.

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

One question: Is it yet ANOTHER difference between Conservatives and liberals? All my conservative friends here or their families down in south see to be a big fan of guns and hunting.
That leads to another question: Will the ban on automatic guns will also automatically lead to discouraging hunting?

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

PETA is crazy. I don't agree with guy killing the lion but hanging him ? That's worse. That sounds nuts like Eco terrorist.

Hunting makes sense if they are gonna eat that animal. Even then killing exotic endangered animals must be illegal. Our ecosystem is shrinking, no need to make it worse.

and it's all those Texas redneck hillbilly people who chew tobacco wanna go hunting and be manly. Send them to Syria to fight Isis

Re: Hunting animals for fun.. Yay or Nay??

I keep reading the thread title as 'hurting animals for fun' but really is there that much difference between that and hunting?

Personally believe anyone who gets pleasure and enjoyment from killing a living thing must be effed up in the head.. I'd be ashamed to have anyone like that in my family..
