Hunger in India is 40 year high

India has the 2nd most arable land in the world but is producing well below potential , so many Indians are going hungry. There is food crisis in India.

Hunger in India is at its highest level in 40 years, the United Nations reports. In just the past two years, 100 million more people have joined the ranks of the chronically hungry, which now number an estimated 400 million in the region.

The causes are many: more expensive food and fuel, the global recession, falling wages and declining remittances from families abroad
