Humsafar** has seen an unprecedented success for Hum TV in recent years. Since past few years, television audiences have forgotten what it was like to be glued to a TV set when the show is on air and to wait for the day to come when the show will be broadcast. It does not take much time to realize what has made the drama series so popular. The paramount reason is simple and that it is a complete cast and crew of drama, where everyone has done their part of the work really well. Already people are fans of the story as it is based on Farhat Ishtiaq’s novel of the same name.***Humsafar’s Drama Cast:***A lot of them are seeing their imagination come to life through this drama series by having to see their favourite characters from the novel portrayed effectively on screen by:
Mahira Khan as Khirad Ihsanhttp://www.pakium.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Humsafar-cast-274x300.jpg
Fawad Afzal Khan as Ashar Hussain
Naveen Waqar as Sara Ajmal
Sara Kashif as Hareem Hussain
Atiqa Odho as Farida Hussain
Behroze Sabzwari as Baseerat Hussain
Hina Khawaja Bayat as Zareena Ajmal
Noor Hasan as Khizar Alam
Qaiser Naqvi as Batool Bano
Five Reasons of Humsafar’s SuccessSeeing the recent success and getting so many viewers attracted while it is on, the question does arise what makes it enjoy such a success. Not only has the drama received many views on YouTube, but it is also being repeat telecasted from the first episode due to such high demand. Here are the five reasons which make it so popular:

  1. A strong woman standing for her own defenceFirstly, it is great to see a woman standing on her own in defence of her honor, dignity and self-respect. Domestic issues such as a motherhttp://www.pakium.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/mahira.jpg-in-law being extremely jealous of her daughter-in-law are relatively common, the only difference lie in their intensity. The drama shows the extreme side of this aspect that many women can connect to. It is about an issue of being accepted for who and how you are in your own right than what others want you to be. The relationships between Farida and Khirad in the drama are like this.

  2. Seeing favorite characters from the novel on screenSecondly, people are interested to see their favorite characters come to life on screen. All the cast-members have done a remarkable job in holding up the fans’ expectations in terms how each character should appear like. The script has been written brilliantly by Zakir Ahmed who is the screenplay writer for this drama. Though the drama Humsafar is different than the actual novel, but then again it has to be shown on television and hence has to fit the format.

  3. Complex relationships between the charactershttp://www.pakium.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/naveen-300x185.jpgThirdly, the relationship that has been shown between Khirad and Ashar and between these two for their daughter Hareem is immensely deep. Their relationship gets complicated due to untoward circumstances in their lives. But this is not the only angle that the story holds. The other characters like that of Sarah and Khizar tell us what negative love or lust can do not only to a person carrying such dark emotions, but also to others whose lives could get ruined coming under their wave.

  4. Unacceptability and preconceived notions amidst the characters for each otherAnother angle to the story is of unacceptability for each other due to certain preconceived notions which are hard to shed away for someone who is unwilling to be open-minded. This holds true especially for Farida who never accepted her daughter-in-law since the beginning http://www.pakium.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/ashar-Hareem.jpgbecause she was totally against her being married to Ashar. Same goes for Sarah who is not willing to let go of her love for Ashar whom she likes since her own childhood and always thought about marrying him. Due to Farida’s and Sarah’s image of Khirad being an ignorant, ill-mannered, poor girl from a low background is what stand between them and her to cover the distance of getting to understand her anew. Despite the fact that Khirad is the daughter of Ashar’s father’s sister, which makes her the first-cousin of Ashar. Between the class differences are strongly depicted.

  5. A brilliant direction and actingLastly, the drama has gotten more people attracted due to brilliant direction and dedicated acting efforts from everyone. Most people who have not read the novel are now into it and those who have already read it and re-reading it. Not only the novel is getting more popular than it already was, but the drama itself is getting much positive reviews from the critics too. Television viewers are happy to see the quality drama and it has swept a wave across the nation of entertainment aficionados.

do you guys agree?

re: -HUMSAFAR-

No. I never read the novel, so this was totally new to me.

Yeah, it's great to see a woman stand up for herself, sure. Yeah, Fareeda did some evil crap to her son...but I can actually understand her POV. =/ Her husband threatened to divorce her, legitimately, when she stood up for her son and his right. I would imagine that shattered her idea of her relationship with her husband. Anyways, I don't find the drama particularly interesting bcos the MIL hates her DIL...we've seen that countless times on Pakistani TV. Heck, it's the only 'relate-able' thing we find in these dramas. But Humsafar isn't about evil MIL's - it's about (cheeseball moment) your soulmate/spouse, the depth of your love and trust with your soulmate/spouse. Asher claims he loves Khirad all the time... but when it mattered, was he there for her? Communication and trust are key to make any relationship work. That resounds with me to a really deep level. I've seen people in my family come to nothing bcos of lack of communication or trust. Baseerat and Fareeda - when it came down to it, did he trust his wife and son? Did Fareeda trust her husband's decision?

The acting and direction is HUGE, yeah. Another resounding part of the story is just how simple it is. There isn't some undying love in saris and extreme makeup and lavish houses with gold or meddling uncles blah blah. It's just two simple people from different worlds. Arranged marriages are extremely common - love stories in Pakistan, IMO, kind of begin exactly how they do between Asher and Khirad. Those subtle compliments, sneaky smiles...fans of Humsafar see themselves reflected in that love story.

re: -HUMSAFAR-

Alrighty, so I am finally caught up on this drama. Yup, I gave into the hype! lol

I really like Mahira Khan as Khirad. She's doing a really good job. She has brought a lot of warmth, genuinness and authenticity to the character.

As for the drama itself, dont you guys think it is like half MZZBN and half qaid-e-tanhai-ish

I think if it wasnt for Mahira Khan's acting, this drama would not be half as popular as it is. The writing is a bit weak and repetetive at times. And the complete change in Ashar's personality is a bit on the ridiculous side. I mean, he's the man who agrees to marry a complete stranger just because he didn't want to see his father broken down. He promises to honor his duty. He treats her well and falls in love with her. And all of a sudden this same guy is jealous of some annoying chatterbox guy?? I don't think that from what we were told of Ashar's character in the beginning, that this type of petty behavior would exist in him.

But I guess it makes for good television.

Yes I totally agree it has elements of mzzb and QEt no matter what anybody says. Of course there is a different angle. Although I found Mahira Khan annoying from what I have seen of her on morning shows. She did cover or Nadia khan several times when she was pregnant with her son. She is not a good compare however she is brilliant in Humsafar and in the commercials I have seen her in. There is an innocence on her face when she doesn't wear too much makeup. I am sure she has a ton of offers right now. I think she should pick the right director to work with.

I think whoever wrote this article just wanted to write a VERY long essay stating the obvious and impress us with vocabulary that they learned in their english medium school! I much prefer the analysis and reviews of some of our own guppans here! :stuck_out_tongue:

re: -HUMSAFAR-

This was posted by Sarmad Khoosat on his FB page.....so yeah we have 3 more episodes....
"
even if i say that i am thoroughly overwhelmed by the response of the audience towards Humsafar......i t would be just an understatement...... i cant thank all of u enough......ever.....but one point that i categorically want to make clear is that the brilliant novel has been dramatized/ adapted for screen by the phenomenal writer Farhat Ishtiaq herself so any changes to the actual plot are made by herself....... there are some minor inevitable changes made by me, as the director, like change of locations and some editing of dialogues, which are also an important part of my job.....some of them have worked but some of them certainly are just a result of time and other constraints......hence the avid and religious followers of the novel should not feel offended please :) just 3 more episodes to go before the safar of humsafar reaches its end:) it has been a great 'safar'. THANK YOU! "

re: -HUMSAFAR-

^ Three episodes should do a pretty good job of wrapping things up properly.
