Human Values

If you were to list and describe universal human values, which values would be on that list? For example, what values do you think are common between all people despite differences of race, religion, nationality or any other defining characteristic.

Re: Human Values

Between **all **people? None.

Between *most *people? Many. Importance of family, honesty in relationships, humanity, charity and so on.

Re: Human Values

Well I would list humility and sense of morality in the top of the list.

Re: Human Values

Shame.

yes we can all bring examples of south american tribes where they remain naked but over all, its in human nature to cloth themselves

Re: Human Values

It’s not any more, TLK bhai. :hmmm: Naturism? The followers of this “movement” don’t share the same values as everyone else.

Re: Human Values

selfishness…its prevalent everywhere…but is it a ‘values’ :konfused:

Re: Human Values

it still is. Naturism is not considered a normal behavior. Shame is still part of our basic instinct that is why naturalist make so much hoopla out of it cause they see themselves as rebellions

Re: Human Values

or rebellious :D

Re: Human Values

I think there can be common values between many people but humans like other species can be of different temperments and charecteristics....

Theres no way everyone can agree on the same values.... just like theres no way you can substitute a gypsy nag for a thoroughbred racehorse.

Re: Human Values

I’m looking for values that we aspire to that make us and society a better place. I want to see whether the common values defy or transcend boundaries of race, religion, nationality etc.

This isn’t the best place to do a poll since most posters do share their ethnic origin and religion in common - but I thought why not start here.

Re: Human Values

morality.

but everyone has their own ideas of morality.

Re: Human Values

To an extent I think that all cultures and societies have certian values and principals which are simmilar if not the same.... but the sheer scope of our planet is such that even simple gestures or apperances have several meanings and even the slightest mistake can be fatal sometimes.

You have to understand that in some parts of the world you can't just behave like the way you naturally think is right because first you need to know what the people there hold dear and what they do not value.

For example most places I have been in this world a handshake between two guys is like the ultimate gesture of goodwill, but there are many places where I have had to be carefull becuase such simple touching of hands is considered rude... likewise we might think the thumbs up gesture to be universally a symbol of good, however some see it as an insult.

Theres even parts of the world where men and women are in reverse roles or where neither is dominant in society, theres many places where the rols of fammily and friends can also be different....

anyway I dont want to rant I think you get the picture.

Re: Human Values

So far the list includes the following:

What else is important to people - justice, dignity, kindness, empathy, progress do these matter? What else do you think people aspire to or want in their life for themself or their loved ones or the for society in general?

Re: Human Values

peace

Re: Human Values

love, peace :)

Re: Human Values

Quit reading my mind. It's annoying.

On that note, humanity and humility

Re: Human Values

peace and love? between all people? hardly! :p

Well, I guess they do make sense with regards to this question:

Re: Human Values

justice, altruism

Re: Human Values

I think all peoples deep down like to enjoy themselves… sometimes sadly this comes at other peoples expense but there is often such joy in destruction.

One of the creepiest factors of human nature is that if I put all the horrible things in this world like Nukes and Biological weapons, guns, drugs, alchohols, poisons… etc into a box and marked it danger do not open! Death! Hazard! etc… chucked it a thousand feet into a mineshaft or something some idiot would still go and open it up… just for kicks.

Re: Human Values

i think you are trying to project your own behavior onto society as a whole, faris pai.
