The SEA HR Indexhas been published coinciding with the SAARC meet. India as usual retains its best record in the region but Pakistan’s record in Judiciary & Administration of Justice has been ranked the least violate which frankly makes no sense whatsover. I mean, they have jailed their justices, mutilated constitution repeatedly and I would have thought they’d get the worst ranking! However the ACHR explains that the rank was given to the judiciary of Pakistan for striking down the dismissal of Iftikhar and the suo moto cases. While that does count for serios credit, the fact that the judiciary was largely controlled by the dictatorship should have prevented it from being ranked as the least violate.
Pakistan’s record of violations against women is ranked worst in the region and violence against children, only slightly better than the worst.
India, while scoring extremely well as the least or one of the least violating of HR in almost all categories, has to improve its record of how women are treated, While it is rated better than Pakisyan and Sri Lanka in this respect, it is simply not good enough.
