Re: Human Resources
Wear short skirts.
Most successful HR women that I have come across are quite fit.
Re: Human Resources
MM .. i know someone who is exactly at the same position as you .. she has a psyc degree with no experience .. she is trying to get volunteer work so that she can have that experience and i think after that it all depends upon how you deal with the interview..
Re: Human Resources
Miss_Mohabbat, take a few courses related to HR. Hopefully that should help as well.

sorry! too much info
Re: Human Resources
I thought you’re a teacher by profession? ![]()
Wish you all the best with the interview, insha’Allah.
Re: Human Resources
MM, most entry level position require you show that you have good communication skills, know what you are talking about (no BS on your CV), and have the confidence to answer questions in a diplomatic way. I have heard that questions come in all flavors from: 'What is your favorite flower' to 'Name the biggest regret in your life'.
Don't worry about now knowing the job specifics as training is part of the offer.
Some people emphasize on going into an interview after researching extensively about what the company does and answer questions like why you wanna work for this company. It might work but I doubt it matters.

Re: Human Resources
Communication Skills:
1 - Look them in the eyes when answering a question.
2 - No aaa, umm, humm stuff.
3 - Use key words.
CV:
They can ask you whatever is on your CV. If you have listed down classes that you took, they will ask you what you learned from such and such class. What class you would take again and why? What class you didn’t like?
Diplomatic Answers:
For example, you can’t travel for some reason more than once in 6 months. You can always give a vague answers rather than just saying no when they ask how flexible you are about traveling.
Ask yourself:
1 - What in your past experience that you can mention that you can adapt to changing situations well? For example, I adapted to the fact that my whole group was being laid off and I will be left behind to close the books and support the products for a year before being shipped off to another city.
2 - How to change a question about mentioning your weaknesses (addicted to gupshup begin one) into something constructive. Like, saying something like I am over organized, or take work too seriously kind thing, rather than mentioning that it takes me 4 hours to get ready in the morning or I back stab my co-workers.

Re: Pertinent Training for an HR position, community colleges & vocational institutes typically have pretty good continuing ed type programs for this. The HR Generalist Certificate from Cornell Univ. (can be done online) is very well regarded in the HR functions in multinationals - check it out here:

Re: your interview - so you’re probably looking at a trainee position followed by an HR generalist appointment.
Knowing where you want to concentrate & specialize may perhaps come up as a way for your interviewers to gauge your interest & aptitude in HR. Before you go for your interview, think about how you can relate your education in Psychology to various areas that an HR generalist is engaged in on a day-to-day basis, and which would you like to pursue as a specialty in the long-term. Examples include:
thsse are the ones I can think of on the top of my head.
I’ve worked in HR for a couple of years at GE as an e-HR consultant and later as a talent-branding advisor – if you need more specific advice, feel free to gimme a shout via PM.
Good Luck for tomorrow! :k:
Ciao.
Re: Human Resources
ok, so i got a second interview for next week
turns out its a management training programme...they train you from scratch in everything to do with sales, marketing and HR.
6-8 months.
i dont know if i should do it...im a good talker...but i know nowt about sales and marketing.
Re: Human Resources
MM, do let us know how your second one goes. And just for the benefit of others, do post the kind of questions they asked and what answers you came up with.
Re: Human Resources
Good Luck MM.. i have my first interview on coming thursay and its kind of related to human resources but more precisely to managment in health division.. can you give some info on kind of questions they asked and also if you have enquired about anything in particular about the program that might be helpful?!?
Also, should we ask for the expected salary during an interview just in case iuf they dun mention and also about the vacations and stuff.. i know it sounds cheesy but what would be the best way to get your questions across during a panel or an individual interview?!?!
Re: Human Resources
GTG sorry luv, the job turned out to be a joke...they didnt want someone for Human Resources after all...it was more on the sales and marketing side, and im not intrested in that.
Cant really help you much with interview questions...but i know people who have applied for managment positions in health..as in working with people with learning disabilities and mental health. I can ask them and PM you some details if you wish.
I think they should tell you about the pay, if not, theres no harm in asking and definately tell them about vactions if you have any planned.
Re: Human Resources
thanx MM, yeah I have been to an interview where I had applied for something else but they interviewed me in a different field, lo n behold, I didnt get that job or more likely I didn't want to have that job!
it will be really great if you could pm me some questions as this is my first interview in a field that I really want to work in.. I 'd really appreciate that.. also I have worked for mentally n physically handicapped children for a yr and so but now its related to the emergency unit in a hospital.. I would like to go back to my previous job that I loved but for some odd reasonsi can't do that anymore!
oh well, life is tough.. good luck with your future interviews and dun go for the job that you wont like because its just going to torture you mentally and you won't be able to adjust there. InshaAllah everything will work out for you, eventually. :-)
