Re: Human Resource Management

no takers i see.
dude i am nto in HRM but in previous life in consulting and corp strategy work, tackled HR groups so have some info there.

what area of HR are you looking towards, a generalist? or focus on benefits, labor relations, talent acquisition/mgmt/succession planning/leadership funnel, traning?

HR is going to be a very interesting area to be in over the next 10-15 years.

A company is more than the products it sells and its brands, factories, etc, the biggest asset is people, and managing that asset is becoming increasingly competitive, change in the demographics of people working, retirrment years of baby boomers gettign ready to hit us hard and fast, companies stand a great risk of being defincient in their greatest asset i.e. people. Its not just finding and retaining the right people, but also to keep them abreast of new developments in their field.

Re: Human Resource Management

Some Questions???

What career prospects are there for an HR specialist In Pakistan???

Secondly, what are the skills required to be an HR professional???

Re: Human Resource Management

I wouldn’t call myself an HR expert but I’ve worked in HR for a few years and currently teach a graduate level course in e-HRM (Electronic HRM).

From my experience in HR and observations of the underlying functional processes… I think one of the utmost skills required to succeed in HR is organization – I’d say that approximately 75% of the work tends to be very administrative in nature and to succeed in this function, a person needs to be extremely structured.

Secondly, as expected, communication and presentation skills matter a lot – this is especially true if you’re on the front-end of the HR function where you’ll not only be interacting with candidates, organizing and participating in job fairs, campus visits etc. but you’d also be representing your company – so good PR skills come in handy. Also, this means that you need to have good fundamental knowledge of the wider business context… so an expansive training in business will be a huge asset.

Overall, you’d need to cultivate outstanding presentation skills and conflict resolution along with analytical abilities.

Re: Human Resource Management

Umar, u are focusing on the recruitment function of HR, other areas such as labor relations, policies, leadership replenishment and sucession planning, salary and banefits strategy, benefits mgmt, training and development are big, and in some of these personal skills are not required, especially in areas like benefits mgmt and corp policies..

Re: Human Resource Management

^ I agree X2... that's why one of the first skills I mentioned was organization and administration... and like I said - I'm far from an expert in HR. I've only worked in HR in my capacity as a business analyst.
