Human Genome changes

I see articles popping up in news every other day about research on genetic engineering. I have a feeling time isn’t too far when they will have a plan to choose the human genetics and sort of modify human genome as per their needs :hmmm:

What do you think?

Makes me think, what kind of traits and genetics will they prefer in the design of human genome. For example would they prefer higher intelligence genetics? better overall health genetics or beautiful physical features ..

What say?

Re: Human Genome changes

Great topic for discussion.
I think you will get a larger number of people considering enhancement of physical attributes. As sad as that may be, I really do think that the numbers would sway in this direction.

Re: Human Genome changes

Two of my friends said the same thing Muzna. Though I feel mankind should wisely benefit from any potential modification option by selecting higher intelligence or better health genetics :hinna:

Re: Human Genome changes

After watching the news, I am now bending towards them modifying the Human genome by altering their crime genes ! We dont need any more criminals in the world .. what say?

Re: Human Genome changes

Just to add, found this following info on CNN :

In April 2003, scientists announced they had completed a draft sequencing of the human genome, or all the genes that make up our DNA. This established the order of the more than 3 billion letters in what's often called "the book of life." Gene sequencing has helped researchers identify single genes that cause diseases and, in turn, has aided in creating better treatments. Scientists are now working on the Human Microbiome Project in hopes of better understanding the complex bacterial systems that live in and on our bodies.

Re: Human Genome changes

Have you seen Gattaca? I feel the time's not too far.

Re: Human Genome changes

Hasn’t that already happened? It was a few years ago that I heard you could choose the eye color and hair color of your unborn child.

or even better - seldon cooper's c-men. <3 <3

Re: Human Genome changes

Not an expert in this field. Not sure there is anything called a crime gene. When society imprisons folks for ridiculously benign actions, we as a society are making future criminals. With privatization of the prison system, there is incentive to put people behind bars.

One lady was put in prison for 2 days because her son racked up debt. She died in prison. While federal laws do not allow imprisonment for not paying debt, some states (conservatives - surprise surprise) do impose such penalty.

If there is a crime gene we all have it. For we r responsible for injustices. May we all get replaced by less criminally oriented people.

Re: Human Genome changes

Southie, its a really complicated project actually. Come to think of it, once they have full control over human gene science. They might do some studies to see what genes trend in criminals or people who are mega intelligent or extremely healthy. Then programmme genetics in that manner :hmmm:
