*Hum Sipahi Hain *is the title of a new privately produced mini series based on a book by Brigadier Sultan Ahmed titled ‘The Stolen Victory’ honouring some heroes of the Pakistan Army from the 1965 war. The first part of the series was aired on PTV on a weekend during mid December. The series is produced by Col (retd) Yahya Jamil an ex Piffer officer of the Pakistan Army (who I’m acquainted with).

I had the pleasure of watching the first film of this series and indeed it’s a great effort by all means. As usual the participation and guidance of the ISPR has been a much appreciated and necessary feature. The ISPR deserves huge credit for the over all factual feel and accuracy in presentation of the armed forces in any form. Col Yahya’s efforts are highly appreciable and have brought a long awaited sigh of relief among military productions enthusiasts. Most of the actors are real soldiers including the lead playing Maj Shahnawaz, who is also a Major in the Army.
The direction is done by a new director who has pulled a fairly decent job, but war action movies not being an easy task, for a trained eye in the genre, quite some room for improvement could be seen in the overall presentation and editing of the film. Still the special effects are great and the photography is wonderful, and the shooting was done on actual locations.
Previosuly Shoaib Mansoor was the only man associated with quality productions portraying the armed forces. His touch and expertise will always remain unique and much sought after, and his film ‘Ye Baraf Humari Hai’ has been a much awaited and talked about project the future of which is still uncertain. It’s still great to have good projects like ‘Hum Sipahi Hain’ coming up, even more so when theyre based on the writings of a military man, are produced by a militraty man and supervized by a military organization (ISPR as always).
Do watch the new episode guys. And how many watched the first…?
