I’m looking for the complete poem and the name of the poet for the following shair/misra (whatever the accurate term is):

Hum dua dua likhte rahe, who dagha dagha parthe(i) rahe(i)
Faqat ek nuktay ne humein mehram se mujrim bana diya

I’ve googled it and have found plenty of versions, but I’m seeking the authentic version, in context of the whole poem. TIA!

I guess the original shair is ...

ik nuqtay nay hum ko mehram say mujrim kar diya
hum dua likhtay rahay aur wo dagha parhtay rahay

No I don’t :(. Like OP, I have read a few different versions of this sher on various places but that’s all about it. Most probably it is by an unknown poet and is part of some otherwise unknown ghazal or nazm.

Thanks for the title though. :smiley: It always feels good to get something without earning it. :smokin:

So this was the longest version of the shair and I wasn't sure if this is the original or if another shayir used it:

Aa kar kaha qasid ne ke aaj shab woh aa rahe hain
Hum ne charagha kiya aur sara ghar jala diya
Hum dua dete rahey woh dagha samajhte rahe
Aik nuktay ne humein mehram se mujrim bana diya

Again, I’m not sure whether someone took poetic license and borrowed from the original or if this is the original. I don’t see the use of “faqat” which comes up in a lot of the other versions.

I read some where that poet was Ghurdas but still this is not authentic.

These two Sher are very famous but poet names are unknown.

Awww, I was really hoping for an answer :( Really, is there no one who knows the actual shayir, or if its an unknown author, at least the complete shair :( See how sadface I am.

There are many quotes and She'r whose poets are not well known.

Just Like every one think this she'r is by Dr. Allama Iqbal
Tundi e bad-e-mukhalif say no ghabra ay uqaab
yeh to chalti hay tujhay uncha uranay k liay
but actually it was by Syed Sadiq Hussain who died in 1989

This is the original version of the verse:

Hum dua likhte rahay aor wo dagha parhte rahay.
Aik hi nuktay ne mehram ko he mujrim kar diya.

ہم دعا لکھتے رہے اور وہ دغا پڑھتے رہے
ایک ہی نقطے نے محرم کو ہے مجرم کر دیا

This is not from a poem. This is just a single verse. It is written by “M M Sabri” in his urdu calligraphy teaching book “Rehnuma e Khush Nawesi” on page number 59.

M M Sabri teaches how to learn Urdu Calligraphy in the said book. While discussing the importance of “nuqta” aor “hijja”, he said he made the above verse. Means M M Sabri says he is the writer of the above verse.

I got this book from my father and I am using it to learn Urdu Calligraphy. Publisher is Sabri Brothers Urdu Bazar Lahore, but the book is quite old one and I don’t know whether it is available today or not.

In short, I signed up for this forum just to clarify what is the actual verse and who is the poet.
(If you want further proof, I can send you images of this book because I don’t know how to post images here.)
