Huge blast shakes central Kabul

**A large explosion has been heard in the centre of the Afghan capital, Kabul.**It is not clear yet whether anyone was killed or injured, or what caused the blast shortly after midday. Eyewitnesses say it shook buildings.

A plume of black smoke is now hanging over the area where the explosion occurred, in which foreign embassies and military installations are located.

The blast comes amid mounting violence between the Taliban and forces which support the Western-backed government.

It also comes amid widescale accusations of fraud in last month’s elections.

In July last year more than 50 people were killed in a massive suicide bombing outside the Indian embassy in Kabul.
