I have much sympathy for you Mr man. It is embarrassing and worrisome for you. I can tell you some things but most important is to see your doc. Or even go to a different doc to keep it more quiet.

You can indeed get genital herpes from things other than sex. You are contagious when you have those lesions. When you are lesion-free, there is very little chance of passing it on to your partner. Even if your partner should become infected, she can still have and deliver babies without passing it on to the little one (c-section). There are medications that help clear up the lesions and medications that help to prevent outbreaks. So this is not quite as dire as you may be thinking now.

Please, go see your doc.
