Hrithik wedding, a confluence of Hindu-Muslim culture

Bollywood heart-throb Hrithik Roshan married sweetheart Suzanne Khan in a private ceremony marked by Hindu and Muslim rites.

In a confluence of Hindu-Muslim culture, the Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai superstar performed certain Hindu rites and Suzanne, Sanjay Khan’s youngest daughter, performed the Muslim rites. The ceremony took place at Sanjay Khan’s heavily guarded Golden Palms resorts and spa, on Bangalore’s outskirts on Wednesday.

In a brief appearance before the media in the midst of the haldi ritual, Hrithik said with a laugh, “There will be no heartburn. They are my well-wishers. They will continue to wish me luck and success. They will wish me the best.”

Dressed in black jeans and a shirt covered with a mustard sports coat and a garland of jasmine flowers around his neck, Hrithik spoke to the press from the first floor of the building.

Suzanne was not present since it is considered inauspicious for the bride and groom to see each other before they get married.

Also present were father Rakesh Roshan, father-in-law Sanjay Khan and uncle-in-law Feroz Khan.

“Suzanne is our last daughter and I’m very happy that she’s getting married”, said Feroz Khan.

The wedding was attended by about 70 members of the Khan and Roshan families and their friends. The guests included stars Dimple Kapadia, Rishi and Randhir Kapoor and Jeetendra. Uday Chopra, director Karan Johar and childhood friend Abhishek Bachchan are expected to join the reception on Wednesday evening.

Hrithik’s mode of transport to his wedding was a white horse, which arrived in a truck on Wednesday afternoon.

Sanjay Khan said the Hindu and Muslim ceremonies would culminate into a registered marriage slated for Wednesday evening. “Rakesh Roshan and I have decided to hold a grand reception for the film industry and the media in Mumbai in January,” he said.

Hrithik’s wedding dress was a white with gold-embroidered Jodhpuri suit designed by Rocky S, while Suzanne was scheduled to wear a gold sari or lehenga-choli designed by Tarun Tahiliani.

Rakesh Roshan said the couple would fly to Europe on their honeymoon. “We are still planning it,” Hrithik added.

Cool, but I wonder what religion they'll choose to follow after marriage. Where can we find pics?

i had a feeling that Suzzane Khan was somehow related to Feroz Khan...now that's confirmed...

ah...these sorta marriages are not a big deal esp in bollywood...saif ali khan married amrita singh...tabu also hails from a family of a similar sikh-muslim marriage...
just to name a few...there are more...

I hope Xtreme is around reading this post.
One of his pet arguments is that Hindu men marrying muslim girls is wrong because

1.It is insulting Muslims.

2.It is unrealistic. It always happens the other way round.Hindu girls are dying for Muslim boys.

So this marraige should settle the argument.

Where are the pics anyway ?

Honeymoon's Western too; stop it, says RSS
The Times of India News Service

BAHRAICH: The RSS, with the view to check the influence of Western
culture in India, has decided to stop newly wedded couples from
celebrating honeymoon.

It will also take Christianity on its target through this new campaign.
The Sangh has also started campaigning against this practice along with
Rashtra Jagaran Abhiyan.

The top office-bearers of RSS of Avadh told the TOINS that the tendency
to celebrate honeymoon among the new couples in India has developed a
lot during the last few years which is the evidence of increased
influence of western culture over the Indian traditions. There was no
such custom in Hindu community in ancient India. This tendency to first
developed in western countries which was later adopted in India.

The Sangh admits that there has been a serious blow to the old customs
of pariwar, with the increased influence of honeymoon culture. Not only
this, families started to break up with the adoption of this western
culture. Hence a decision has been taken to stop this tendency.

The sources revealed that under the door-to-door Rashtra Jagaran Abhiyan
in the entire country the heads of Hindu families will be requested to
stop their young members from going on honeymoon after the marriage.

The literature which the RSS activists are distributing consists the
book Adarsh Hindu Ghar which contains the evils grown with the increased
tendency to observe honeymoon and the benefit with putting a check on
it. According to the Sangh, joint family is the historical heritage of
India.

The book Adarsh Hindu Ghar appeals the people that the western countries
did not lay the down the family planning for their countries after due
study of Hindu culture as their total life stretches to years. It has
been mentioned in the booklet that the meaning of marriage was treated
as consent of enjoyment. The tendency of going on honeymoon, leaving the
entire family behind and the freedom to act as wife and husband also got
encouragement. This tendency gave the origin to the idea that the
remaining family is a hindrance to their mutual freedom.

IN reality it is nevr a quetsion of what religion will t/ bride & groom follow. Whether t/ bride will convert to t/ hubby's or vice versa.

Instead, it is always a question of what religion will either parent allow (yes, ALLOW) t/ children to follow. Generally, Moms take over such duties, but then t/ father may want his kids to follow His religion, and THAT is where t/ problem arises.

Ofcourse, none of t/ parents may be very religious, but I have seen enough parents (Desis & Non-Desis) to know, that sooner or later, parents HAVE to deal w/ this siruation. And please, dont tell me that t/ kids can follow both!! Although evn in such a scenario t/ child is to to have a Major religion. I wonder what ppl in this post (or likewise) would do if they were ever to get married to a person not from thr religion. Let t/ kids follow t/ Mothre's religion or t/ Father's, (even if none of t/ parenst is very religious).

Ofcourse, there is always t/ option of Not teaching their child any religion, hence raising t/kids as Athiest. But I have yet to see such a family.

Either way, it's not an easy decsion for eithr parent when it comes to choosing a religion for thr kids in an inter racial marriage. One of them has to scarifice.

A marriage between a hindu and a Muslim cant be considred marriage in Islam so whatever they do they won't be considred a couple in Islam.

Yiada is correct...as the concept of "ahle kitaab' occurs (only for muslim males)

and i heard that the indian govt is encouraging these inter-racial marriages in rural/remote parts of the country to kind of 'terminate' a whole muslim generation (its the muslim girl and hindu guy)

i beleive its wrong..and it is..islamically and culturaly..

Kabir, you are right that most of the ppl. in movies have little condsideration for religion,But some like dilip kumar,Ajit,Jagdeep(javed Jafris father)Mukhri,& some were observent to the extent that we are(i mean nri, professional,in big cities)

I dont think hiom being shia is a factor,May be shias have some thing different but those koranic islamic laws of mariage ,personal laws are same.Other differences are exaggerated by mischieve- mongers,& some difference are cultural as there are differences between bengali sunni muslim & gujrati sunni muslims?
Dont forgrt such lopsidde weddings are 1 in a million s,but itr would be mistake to follow this model,as condition for ordinary indian muslims & hindus are different. The red herring character of this tamasha should be stressed.Unfortunately young teens who only read star dust fil fare & watch movies all the time can be misslead ,with great pain, sufferings & heart ache in personal lives as far as India is considered

Re: muslim-hindu: I don’t think these muslim philmi (filmi, ofcourse!) families are too particular abt religion etc. For them, it is a baggage which they may or may not choose to carry

I guess if you are crazy enough to marry ,you are expected to blabber some stupid remarks, which our Hrithik has also done. Not that he is the first one nor will he be the last one.

Nepal protests over star’s ‘insult’
Roshan (right): Comments went down badly in Nepal
By Sushil Sharma in Kathmandu
At least 12 people have been injured in Nepal during clashes between
police and student demonstrators angered by a Bollywood screen idol.

Roshan’s films may be banned in Kathmandu
The demonstrators, in the capital Kathmandu, were protesting against
heart-throb Hrithik Roshan, for reportedly saying that he hated Nepal
and its people.

The alleged remark in an television interview - which he has denied
making - turned him into a villain overnight in the eyes of his Nepali
fans.

The police fired tear gas and charged the protesters with batons to stop
them from proceeding towards the Indian embassy.

Effigy burnt

The angry youths - most of them students - burned Roshan’s effigy, tore
apart his posters and destroyed video cassettes of his films.

Madhuri Dixit apologised
They have called for a boycott of the actor’s films until he apologises.

Hrithik Roshan’s hit film, Kaho Na Pyar Hai (Say, You Love Me), ran for
weeks in many cinema halls this year.

But a number of cinemas in Nepal have now decided to stop screening his
films as a sign of protest.

Controversy

Hindi films and Bollywood stars are very popular in Nepal, but some of
them have been embroiled in controversy in recent years.

Last year, actress Madhuri Dixit apologised after an uproar over her
remarks that Nepal was a part of India.

Following similar protests 30 years ago, the films of the then
superstar, Dharmendra, were banned in Nepal. The ban still continues.
