How would the future unfold...?

What would happen if US goes further ahead with its strategy to transform military purging it of religious elements?..the danger is, when West/US tries to coopt (the liberal) part of military, there would be some upheaval (with conservative part of the army reacting to it)…Complicating this would also be the West’s attempt to influence the balance of power between institutions, provinces, etc. in Pakistan.

Re: How would the future unfold...?

Ha, people don't like to respond to this thread ...or they don't like my presence , the only Pashtun here, on this forum...

Guys come on! Let us think of the futuristic scenarios...Would not the alliance between Mushi and Benazir quickly fall apart and leave a rather greater messs...what do ya think?

Re: How would the future unfold...?

Come on man... I have posted dozens of time without any response. I usually attribute it to lack of intrest.... Why jump to the conclusions?
I admit I dont often agree with you on many points, but has nothing to do with your ethnicity.
Other reason is that Pak politcs are so depressing these days, that many people just dont feel like discussing it.

BTW, I think there are other Pashtuns, but I just dont know them... Zakk is a Pashtun ofcourse.

As for the future... Musharafs best gift to the country I think would be to throw of his uniform at this point. A gradual transition into civilian rule would be far more desirable.
I think one of the main reason why democracy was such a flop in the past was because it was to sudden.
Neither Benazir nor Musharaf are desirable at this point, but together, the stabilty that they offer may be just what the country needs.

Whats more worrying is that continuing Musharaf govt will mean a continuation of many of the govts policies, such as in Waziristan and Balochistan.

As for conservatives and extremists, I dont think there is any way to defeat them because they have far to much support in the country. The only way to confront them is through equitable economic growth and provisions for justice and fair play.

Re: How would the future unfold...?

Not true man, Pashtuns/Pakhtuns are great people, and regardless of what you say, they get along just fine and dandy with the rest of Pakistan, especially Punjab. They have alot of qualities like honor, respect and dignity which is something the rest of the nation can learn from. I have learnt some Pushtu over the years and am learning more! Sangeye?

I think Benazir will get rid of Musharraf if the machinery in the alliance fails, it would be a mistake underestimating her ability.

Re: How would the future unfold...?

so this benazir thing has legs? intriguing. on the + side, atleast aqk will get some come uppance

Re: How would the future unfold...?

Zakk got his pashtun license revoked? He used an urdu world while speaking pashto, didn't he?

Re: How would the future unfold...?

Thank you Pakpatriot and Spock for the couteous words.

I also feel so from my experience on this forum. Probably the reason is, both are communities with rural background and in contact with each other for centuries...Therefore, both have commonalities and a consciousness of each other values and so usually respond to each other accordingly...I, unexpectedly, find Muhajirs to be somewhat against us, Pashtuns...Probably, they find us too crude for their advanced urbane sense...

Unfortunately, the ambitious rulers have damaged the interprovincial harmony and goodwell so much that all the pent-up emotions and resentment get expressed in political discourse as well... If our rulers could be wise and didn't go ahead with contructing Pakistani nation "within no time" but rather work slowly and with wisdom, we, ultimately, might find synthesis of all these values...

Re: How would the future unfold...?

I am sorry! One other is Zakk ...

Re: How would the future unfold...?

True man, I like it how Pukhtuns and Punjabiz have integrated. Rawalpindi is one such example where they work with each other like a well oiled machine. I agree our provincial leaders have been pathetic, but we should let that tarnish the love that is centuries old. Mohajirs came from a different area, it will take them some time to realize and adapt the qualities Pashtuns/Pakthuns offer.

Re: How would the future unfold...?

I think there are others, they just dont post in politics...
I know there is a guppan calling herself Pathani. I assume she is one:)

Re: How would the future unfold...?

The other thing is that Pashtuns and Punjabis have melded in many places because these groups, particularly the Pashtuns, have expanded out from their respective towns and cities into those of neighboring ethnic groups, esp. Punjab.

Mohajirs for the most part havent left Karachi and Hyderabad, so havent really mingled very much outside of Karachi... Couple this with the ethnic rivalry and tensions in Karachi, and you get what we have here.

Re: How would the future unfold...?

oh thats why the only wild life they know is crows.

Re: How would the future unfold...?

yes, in Karachi these are all crows that sometimes become vultures...:)
