Re: How will you survive?

does anyone remember lajawab? I cant believe that I am possibly the only person in this thread who knows him.. he was an oldie. a talented musician (as in raag and tabla and such) who posted his music on the forum struggling with himself because he also happened to be a (more multidimensional) cricketplaya of the time.

he doesnt post here any more. used to be a staple on this site, u thought of GS you had to include Lajjo in it. Such is life.

Re: How will you survive?

I remember Lajawaab, but never got a chance to listen to his music

Because you are the one who is claiming that Muslims apparently invented some Music instruments. So why don't you back up your statement with some sources instead of asking me who invented them instead?

Muslims have a history of translating, modifying and in very rare cases developing things, not inventing.

Anyway hareem, which Islamic scholar invented which instrument? Could you kindly name them please? How about a source? Thanks.

Re: How will you survive?

i thought lajawaab was TLK multi....

Re: How will you survive?

no no firenze... although there are some overlaps, theres a ton of difference.

it was really surprisingly good TLK... very clear talaffuz and all. but he made the choice between his understanding of religion and his talent for music.

on the thread topic, i guess its a bit of a cricketplaya fantasy played out isnt it, him saying the world will be in the image of his understanding of religion. not a bit egotistical is it?

Re: How will you survive?

TLK is lajwaab

Re: How will you survive?

Moorish Spain Contributions.. to Music & ART:

Moorish influence in the Iberian Peninsula goes back thousands of years, but it was the Islamic invasion in 711 that brought the main musical influences. The conquerors brought their music, and were in turn influenced by native Spanish forms.
The Emirate, and later Caliphate of Córdoba became a major center of influence in both the Muslim and Christian worlds, attracting musicians from all Islamic countries. One such was Zyriab, who revolutionized the shape and techniques of the oud, adding a fifth string, and set the foundations for Andalusian nuba.
Centuries later, aspects of this "Moorish guitar" combined with the European lute and guitar latina to create the vihuela, which in turn influenced the baroque guitar, the precursor to the classical guitar - the basis of the flamenco guitar, and all other guitars in popular usage today.
The Jews were an important group in al-Andalus, able to maintain their own traditions, rites, and music under a culture of religious tolerance fostered by the Moorish rulers. Certain flamenco palos like the Peteneras and saetas have been attributed to Jewish origins.

I absolutely remember him. How can I forget him? I remember he started to become more and more rigid or you can call it, more conservative.

any links to any of his work that he posted here?

sure you are ... it was nice beats though......... ;)

Re: How will you survive?

re Hareem: oh good. Allah bakshay (his gs persona i mean). I used to have a lot of wars with him, but he was one of the good ones.

TLK... i think he took them all off. Lemme search.

What about this kind of music CP? They aren’t using any instruments.

Re: How will you survive?

I didn’t say “Islamic” scholar, I said “muslim” scholars.

I already named al-Kindi who invented a music theory and so did Farabi who did research on Persian Music. If you read the history of (oud) you’d know that it was invented by a muslim.

Here’s the rest:

Mechanical musical instrument and automatic hydraulic organ: In the 9th century, the Banū Mūsā brothers invented “the earliest known mechanical musical instrument”, in this case a hydropowered organ which played interchangeable cylinders automatically. According to Charles B. Fowler, this “cylinder with raised pins on the surface remained the basic device to produce and reproduce music mechanically until the second half of the nineteenth century.”[265]](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/#cite_note-264)

Programmable automatic flute player: In the 9th century, the Banū Mūsā brothers invented an automatic flute player which appears to have been the first programmable machine, and which they described in their Book of Ingenious Devices.[266]](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/#cite_note-Koetsier-265) The flute sounds were produced through hot steam and the user could adjust the device to various patterns so that they could get various sounds from it.[267]](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/#cite_note-266)

Timpani, naker, and naqareh: The modern timpani (kettle drum) evolved from the naker, the direct ancestor of most timpani, were derived from the Arabic naqareh and brought to 13th century Continental Europe by Saracens and Crusaders.[261]](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/#cite_note-Farmer-260)[268]](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/#cite_note-bridge-267)

Rebec and rebab: The rebec was in use since the 10th century,[269]](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/#cite_note-268) and was derived from the rebab which originated in medieval Arabic music and Islamic music.[261]](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/#cite_note-Farmer-260)
