It's a tough one. Force kids to do namaaz and act Islamically and they'll resent being forced to act in a certain way and rebel by not doing that. But if you don't put enough emphasis in acting like a good muslim they won't ever do it.
The most religious and God-fearing couple in my family (hijabi, always made sure they live near a masjid, go to the masjid every day, etc etc etc) have the most wild and out of control son who utterly resents even so much as praying because his parents have constantly been forcing him against his will to go to the masjid and to pray and all that. He's in his early teens and type of things he proudly confesses he's done are sick - even my non-muslim gora friends didn't talk like that and do that stuff till they were 18 at least.
Somehow, you need to make them WANT to be good muslims. I think that reading the translation of the Quran along with the arabic is a good place to start. Beyond that.... being a good role model is critical.

I know some parents who pray 5 times daily and made their kids stand/sit next to them from infacy...those very same kids continued to do the same as they became older. You must MAKE ur kids pray with u from the start...but u have to be tactful in doing so.
My imam once told us......"a family that prays together....stays together".....i believe that to be true.

Whatever you do dont force them to do anything!!! They wont like it, and once they're out of your hands they'll stop! I speak from experience. Rather, follow you religion yourself, kids ALWAYS want to imitate adults in order to try to look mature. Unless they dont do it off their own will, it wont become a part of their own mind-set, so you need to create the environment which will best accomodate that mind-set, and not force the mind-set on yourself. Please. For the sake of all the kids who came to resent religious obligation due to the strictness of their parents, dont force them!!!!!!!!!

BulBuli, you forgot the most import and the very first step. You need to become a role model for you children. For that you also dont have to watch too much indian movie/drama/song/etc, keep company of good muslims and also follow the teaching of Allah and Prophet Muhammad :saw: .

exactly.....u have to be a good muslim yourself first and foremost. Always instilling Islam in everything you do and say...and in everything ur family does...is the best way to raise ur kids.

also one more thing....FORCE is nvr a good way to get ur kids to do something. however u can MAKE them want to be a good muslim.....it's all about approach.

I am biracial and I don’t see anything wrong with incorporating both value systems. You people are pathetic, keep up with this mentality and you’ll definitely suffer at the hands of the misdeeds committed by your stifled children.

yeh u should go to some arab land to teach ur kids islam…lol arab kids r the most messed up lots i have ever seen..and i m saying from experiance…masjid ko bi nahi choortai …they even steal shoes of ppl who r praying such honourable ppl:rolleyes: …

you can never force a child to do something that he/she doesn't want
however, like others have said, if you are a good role model for your children, it makes all the difference in the world.
you want you child to say bismillah before eating? say it outloud yourself.
you just need to be conscious of the things we do around children, because they pick it up before you even know it.

It also depends in which environment you living, If you are living in an islamic environment then there are more chances you have to become a good muslim.

i dunno bout that.....have u seen or met the kids living in modern muslim countries?
also...there is this huge islamic school in our area.....k-12th grade. The kids that graduate from there are so screwed up....generally speaking of course.
