Is it just me or are the TV networks running out of creative shows to air on TV. Seems like everyone is now airing these shows about taped live in the bedrooms, livingrooms and heck, even the Islands. Its sad to turn on the TV and all you see is some idiots trying to convince America how much they enjoy stir-fried rats?!
All this started with MTV’s Real World, which was a nice change about 10 yrs. ago.. But with the influx of these shows everywhere, I am beginning to think that these highly compensated producers have run out of ideas…
I think it's just a trend that will be over in its due time like other trends in the past. But it seems to me that one network starts something and sooner or later, other one picks up the same theme and puts out a show. Example would be 'Who wants to be a millionaire'.
Personally I don't like these shows either. Perhaps that's why we've become even more engrossed in biographical and history based television productions.
Did the trend start from the web with folks that put the web cams up in dorms? Many people love 'em. It's like voyeurism isn't it? What does this have to say about society today?
Actually, if you look at it, the networks have tapped into the general public's 'voyeurism' mentality for quite a while.
Shows like Friends for the 20-something public, and Frasier for the old-fogies, are basically showcasing other ppl's lives; something always registers as more comical to the brain of the viewers when it displays or makes evident the inabilities/inadeqaucies of ppl in a frame of existence similar to their own. Soap Operas are the same but they're way too unreal.
Generally speaking, humans are pretty weak at handling relationships, of any kind. 'Jerry Springer', 'Blind Date' etc. disect other ppl's lives and gives viewers the chance(s) to laugh at others' inept behaviour and feel good about their ownselves and shortcomings.
Have you noticed that jokes like Frasier admitting he's a sex maniac are always laughed at the loudest?
Do you think that these shows are becoming less popular because we are realizing that it's a seedy side of our personality that makes us enjoy them or do you think that we are just plained tired of the story-lines etc.....?
Probably a bit of both I guess. The average american viewer gets easily distracted and the short attention-span helps kill the euphoria surriunding these latests fads pretty quickly.
COPS was exactly the same thing yrs ago, but the complaints were minimal cuz there weren't many real-tv shows around. Now every station 's churning out 'yet another'-cam shows.
O.k.. This is interesting... My mother is a survivor fan. She was upset that Sean was thrown off last night, she wanted the old men to leave. My wife is just happy that that free loader YMCA guy (the black one) is off.
yours truly wants either of the old men to win. I think Sue is just a troublemaker and a whiner. I am hooked (no pun intended)!
