I want to ask all of u out there how in the world would Imam Mehdi come to know that he is the chosen one.Secondly, I would also like to know how will others know what is the truth…

As per my knowledge, there are ample signs narrated about the attributes of Mahdi in certain Ahadith. Unfortunately, I cannot narrate all those signs from memory, however if you are interested to learn what those signs are just visit any Hadith site or run a search about Mahdi in Yahoo or some other search engine.

There was a thread started called: The Messiah has arived.....; it was started on April 20 and contains info on 'The Mahdi' from the Sunni's perspective.
When you say 'Imam Mehdi' - I presume you mean the Imam of the Shias. The distinction is very clear:The Imam will have to be a direct descendent from the Family of Hazrat Ali (pbuh)or the Noorani Family; possessor of Allah's noor.
The Shia Isna-Asharis 12th Imam went into hiding/deep occultation due to the hostile environment of the time. How the 'Hidden Imam' stays in touch with his pirs/representatives -- will have to be clarified by members of the Shia Isna-Ashari faith.
Others believe that the line of Imams continues today in the personnage of the Aga Khan who claims direct descendent from Hazrat Ali. Again, members of the Ismaili faith will have to clarify, if need be.
