well u don't need 2 go thru all that fuss.these days tailor sew saris with built in fall.u wear it like a skirt n take the pallu the way u like.

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

with built in pleats you mean, not fall :P its called a sari with a belt or a belt sari.

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

Thanks wish that's really useful, I have a couple of sarees I've never worn cos I don't have a clue how to drape them...I'll have a go at it now :)

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

This makes it all sounds so easy!!! Shouldnt you pin up the pleats as well once you tuck them in the sari?? wouldnt they come loose if you sit down and try to stand or some kid pulls on your sari? :halo: Sorry just trying to get ideas here!

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

^ I pin them.

I get the sense that the traditional saris generally fall better than the ones with belts.

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

The fall is what lines that bottom of the sari, no?

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

Yes fall is the strip of fabric on the inside of the lower end of the sari. The part you fold at the waist is definitely called pleats.
Belted saris are great for novices, the only problem is you are stuck with the length of the pallu at the length it is- you cant make it longer or shorter cause the rest of the fabric is stiched up.

I love my stitched belt saaris :halo:

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

they sound SO convenient! can you specify how long the pallu should be?

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

well it depends.. those who r used to wearing sarees.. dun need to pin.. but if ur not used to it.. then it is probably a better idea to pin them!

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

dude, pin your sari pleats from the inside. added security!

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

Rah man the 1st time i wore a sari was on my wedding day-i know theres a knack to it but i havnt got a clue abt how to put it together. I know i'll need to learn 1 day but for the time bein i get my mum to pin it together.

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

I followed these directions to put together a chiffon sari. The directions are pretty good. Its hard to keep the pleats together, esp since the sari has kaam done on it and it weighs it down. Maybe if i practice a lot more with cotton saris first, i can pull this off. :(

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

well if it is heavy due to kaam n stuff.. u can use a large safety pin to pin up the pleats together.. before you tuck them in...

Re: How to wear a saree: step by step guide - aided with pictures

try not to use to many pins tho

u can get way with just a few providing they are in the right place
