This is the instruction I was sent:

Power off the device and insert a non-AT&T SIM card.
· Samsung devices do not require entering the network lock string (# 7 4 {>>>} 5 * 6 3 8 *), if the customer has a **non-AT&T SIM **in the device.
· If the customer has an AT&T SIM in the device, they must use the network lock string (# 7 4 {>>>} 5 6 2 5 * 6 3 8 * [unlock code] #).

Power on the device.

Network Lock displays: Enter the device unlock code**.**

The SOS key LSK on the lower-left side of the device keypad changes to OK. Select OK.

Display reads: Network Lock Deactivated.

OK, just because it feels like I’m giving thieves the key (not you guys, but people out there on the net googling such things), I have changed the numbers, however, the instructions are the same: to use the phone with a non-ATT SIM card, no unlock code is necessary.

umm sir or ma’am. the bold letters clearly state to enter the unlock code.
