Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

uetian, i only buy what i know i will use within a week. Unfortunately these herbs are not freezer friendly. I just wrap them in plastic baggies and keep in the fridge.

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

Untie the bunch and Roll it in a kitchen paper towel (bounty or any other brand), next put it in the plastic bag and keep it in the veggie/fruit section of your refrigerator.

It will stay fresh/green longer....

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

yeah they dont stay fresh for long but u can keep them for like 7-10 days this way

just wash them thoroughly and pat dry them with a kitchen towel

make sure they dont have any water left on them

so u pat dry them

if think they dont get dried up even after drying with towels

just leave them on kitchen table for sumtime so they will get completely dried

then just put them in a air tight container

and put them in fridge

they will be ok for 7-10 days

u can do the same to any other herb or flowers u like to store too

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

you can actually chop the dhania and freeze it... make sure when u freeze that there is some "air" in the bag...and just take a little portion out of it whenever u need...

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

when should i wash it? before chopping ? or before using?

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

This is what I do, and I find its better than letting all that dhaniya go to waste if I am not able to use it in one week's time.

I cut off the stems, wash the dhaniya real well, separate the leaves, pat dry and on a tray that will fit into the refrigerator I lay some towels and then spread the leaves as much as possible. I let it sit for as long as I can, and usually by the end of the week the leaves are dry (sometimes it takes even longer) When I see its completely dry I store them in a box or some ziploc bag at room temperature. I use this for garnishing, I feel this way it doesn't completely lose its color and I don't have to run to the store, I always have some dhaniya on hand.

Hope that helps :)

Oh btw I do the same for pudina as well....

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

I've got a steel tin/box from India with holes all over it.

DON'T wash the dhaniya or phudina before storing as even the tiniesy bot of water will spoil them....

Clean but don't wash them before storing in the box, and take out what you want with dry hands and wash as required...

Ours lasts ages

You can also store in newspaper to make it last

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

But doesnt storing it any way or form, make dhanya pudina lose its fresh flavor and smell?

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

^..yes it does....thats what i have seen ...no matter what u do ,it will go bad in a week or so....
i just take the leaves off the stems and store them in a plastic container ....and when i have to use it i chop it and wash it.....
just make sure its not wet at all before going to the fridge...or it will go bad very soon....

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

Once I froze dhaniya and it got black...but hari mirch stays good in the freezer...

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

U should wash it and before chopping let it dry very well... and ofcourse frozen dhania cant be compared with the fresh one... but honestly its not that bad when its frozen either... what i do it chop it really fine before freezing... then sprinkle it on ur dish right before serving... it 'll remain nicely green and finely chopped... but if u put it in while cooking under heat then for sure it will leave a dark colour...

Re: how to store dhanya and podina?

I keep cilantro fresh this way, take an empty bucket of yougurt put some water in it put cilantro as it is in the bucket as its bottom part is dip in water then cover the upper part with plastic bag loosely as it covers the cilantro and it also prevents cilantro from extra cooling effect. I use same plastic bag in which I buy cilantro form store i.e thinly plastic bag. In this way freshness stays longer.

thank u so much jias..i tried this and my dhanya is still so fresh...May Allah bless u..thankx again:)

u r welcome.
