How to stop the wooden skewers from burning when making tikkas?

So i am attempting to make chicken skewers today under the hot grill BUT i will be using the wooden ones.

How do i stop them from burning? I have read on the internet to soak them in the water which is what i did in the morning before leaving for work - would that be ok?

Presentation is the key for my hubby’s dinner - as it makes it even more appetising for him to consume his dinner so that is why i do NOT want to burn the ends! hehe…

Ideas please!

Danke!

Easy. Make the tikaa using metal skewer and when they are ready transfer them into wooden skewers.
If you use low heat , they should not burn and should cook all the way in.

Re: How to stop the wooden skewers from burning when making tikkas?

How long do you guys plan to cook this chiceken for. If it has been soaked, and you cook chicken over medium heat/flame, you should be fine. And if the stick does borwn up a bit, big deal, just take the chicken off the stick. As long as the meat tastes good, who cares. Plus most restaurants, that serve meat/shrimp on skewers, they get a little black, its bound to happen over open fire.

Here is an original idea too. Buy some non toxic fire retardant spray and spray it on those skewers.
