how to stop buying

I have habbit of buying clothes for my daughter…alot of them. Whenever I see anything automatically my mind sees need for it. Lots of time she doesn’t really have need for it bt my mind fits that item somewhere and I ended up buying.

Does this happen to everyone or its just me?

My daughter has 4 hoodies and 2 coat for winter. Bt I really like this sweat shirt and really want bomber jacket for her for this winter. And lots of shirts that each has a reason for me to buy.
She goes to school so doesn’t gets alot of time to wear other than weekends. But I cant control my self over buying for her.
If I don’t buy I feel bad guilty upset that iam compromising on her needs.

How to get over this guilt?. I can not figure out whether she really needs or my mind telling me to buy it:mad:

If you can afford all this and it’s not hurting you financially then go ahead.

Re: how to stop buying

if you are a shopoholic, take these extreme measures:

-surrender your driver’s license…that takes care of your ease of mobility…saving trips to the malls.

-cut up all the credit cards…this takes care of your impulsive buying

-stop looking at flyers/catalogues

good luck!

Like TLK said…if it’s not a problem for u financially and it’s not hurting u…then go for it.

I am not rich and I tend to compromise on certain things and buy for my daughter.

Re: how to stop buying

Yep if you can afford it then go ahead. I lust and wait for the sale or clearance ka stamp on it and then I pounce.

Re: how to stop buying

Perhaps reduce unnecessary trips to the mall. Or avoid shops that sell the stuff.

Keep reminding yourself that Allah SWT does not like israaf (extravagant spending) so unless she really needs it, force yourself to not buy it. Just because we’ve been blessed with resources (financial and others) does not me an we’re allowed to misuse it.

And before I get bashed, no I don’t mean only buy your kids 2 pair of clothes where we use one while the other is washed. Within our means, buy good quality comfortable clothing, as many as required and then put a brake on the spending.

Re: how to stop buying

I only enter the shop when I see the label of sale or seasonal savers, else I don’t even enter the shop. do keep your budget in your mind, I know its so fun to shop for girls I keep my huby wth me it helps n then we don’t buy any unnecessary stuff. if I like something very much and I think I don’t need it now I buy in bigger size for next year

Re: how to stop buying

I am not sure what stuff you are compromising on to buy your daughter all the clothes. If it is important stuff, may be set a budget for daughter’s clothes and no matter what, do not go over your budget.
Not going to the malls/shop part did not help me as I started shopping online and I find shopping online more addictive as I love getting packages in mail

Do not feel guilty for not buying because probably if your daughter is like most of the kids, they dont care about clothes as much. My kids have couple of favorite clothing items which they want to wear all the time. They get more excited about books, toys than they do about clothes.
My daughter has a favorite shirt and if it is not dirty, she would wear the same shirt and her ‘ghisi pitti’ legging every single day. I have to hide that shirt to convince her to wear something else when we are going out.

When you buy a coat for your daughter, buy another one to donate.

Re: how to stop buying

Just remember that everythinnnng will go on sale when the newer stock comes in. I always just wait a few weeks and then buy it.
You’ve gotta see the goodies I got at baby Zara a couple of weeks ago at 70% off!!! :hayaa:

Re: how to stop buying

It happens all the time to me as well. But I refuse to pay full price for clothes, mostly, unless it’s something really nice and I can see that it won’t be available/or get sold quickly in a sale a few weeks later. I do have a habit of buying a lot for my kids and we’ve a big family so there’s always something to attend and for special occassions I like to match them to their dad which means I do end up being things they probably won’t use much but like some posters already said, if you can afford it then I guess it’s alright.
